Watched this documentary last night. For everyone who has said we should just nuke the Middle East. Watch this documentary and I challenge you to say the same after watching it. 73 years later they are still living with the bomb. It's carried on generation to generation for the "hibakusha"--survivors of the bomb.

If they stay a threat then I would Nuke them to Hell and let THEM worry about the Black Rain.

We don't Nuke people for the fun of it like Iran and North Korea want too, so this is really a moot moot statement about "What If".

You play with knives and eventually you get the sh't cut out of you and I don't feel one ounce of sorrow for those who have to suffer from a Tyranny Caused Apocalypse they could have suppressed with a Coup or an Uprising.

We always take it that 3rd World Dwellers are ignorant fools that can't do anything for them selves - - the truth is simple, they get tied in to way of life that may seem tragic to us, but they know there is a better way. The ALLOW Radicals and Fundamentalist to permeate the landscape and thus, are thrust into the exact same ends as these Despots.

No one wants to be the harbinger of Death by Nuclear Weapon, but when that is the last resort or YOU DIE, then unleash Hell Upon Them in Spades.

Then let them sort it out in the end ....

I think everyone should remember that Japan picked that fight, not the USA. They surprised us, and then we kicked the crap out of them. Honestly, I have a hard time feeling sorry for them.

3 things cross my mind. When did Iraq attack the US? So going by your line of thinking. An Iraqi who watched his parents burned alive by an American bomb is justified carrying a suitcase nuke to an American city?

2. Why Fatman just 3 days later? Could we have given them a week maybe two to surrender? The Japanese attacked a military installation Fatman exploded over a Catholic part of Nagasaki.

3. It's amazing truly amazing the parallels society drew before an enemy. They showed a Time video from 1942. It went along these lines. "The Japanese thinking is 2000 years old." "I can't imagine a culture as far out of touch with American ideals as the Japanese." "When the Japanese die in battle they believe they are seated at the side of (subuto or something along those lines) the warrior god and placed in paradise". It sent a chill down my spine how we dehumanized them and how the playbook still works.

I live 1500 miles SE of Tokyo, on Saipan. We get 45-50K Jap visitors a month. I presently live about 5 miles from runway Able. When I worked at the hospital here I would take care of an elderly Japanese person almost every week. I Would often escort them home to Japan as well. I would often talk to them about WWII. About 75% percent of them were in favor of us dropping the bombs. The military was in control of the country, not the govt. Unless the Emperor surrendered there would never be peace.
Those 75% felt we stopped the war. Some of them as young as 14-16 were being sent to the southern islands to basically work as slaves to the army. One man I remember, was going to be sent down on August 15, IIRC just a couple days after the Emperor surrendered. He was very thankful that we dropped the bombs, otherwise he was sure he would have died. That is the story I heard most from them. If We had not used the little boy and the fat-man, they feel that they would not have survived.

One man I talked to for a very long time, Mr. Tomasaki, was educated at Harvard after the war. (paid for by the US) The thing he remembers the most about his govt during the beginning of the war was they were telling their people that America was poor on natural resources. That everything after 200 miles in from the oceans was desert or mountain. That Japan would win the war easily because we could not produce the materials needed to win the war. When he rode the train from San Fran to MA and crossed over our fruited plain and the large industrial cities, he said he began to cry uncontrollably. Because he realized, at that point, everything his govt had told him about the US was a lie.

They did not wait a week or two because they did not want to give them time to bomb our bases on Saipan, Tinian, and Guam. Which would have killed more of our people.

#1- The Japanese SAID "NO SURRENDER" and death to the last Japanese Citizen fighting the West. There was going to be NO Surrender.

#2- Our Nuclear Weapons were massive bombs weighing in at tons and were NOT precision weapons. It got dropped where it got dropped.

If we had not nuked Japan, the war would have raged on for another 2 to 5 years and that was just plain damn stupid.

The Japanese lost themselves when they Unified their Nation and had no soul from which to govern them selves.

It was only 70 years earlier that WE, the United States were selling them Arms and Training their Armies.

#3- We were fighting a "God" or the Emperor and he was still seen as a Living God in 1945 ... now that's pretty backwards thinking ain't it ???

They were so strung out on Non-Surrender, that we had to Nuke them TWICE to get them to STOP .... that should tell you all you need to know right there.

So how would you have wanted it ... another 2 to 5 years of bloody war with bodies piling up like pick-up sticks, or get it over in two swoops ???

This is why we had to drop the bomb.

The entire civilian population of Japan was pushed into service to die for the emperor. It was only when they realized there would be no troops coming and we'd simply obliterate them from the sky that they surrendered.

Dropping the bomb not only saved American lives it saved Japanese lives.

The revisionist history of the left about this event is pathetic. They are as stupid about the mindset of radical Islam as they are about the Japanese of that era. They're just pissed we didn't lose WWII.

I'd also like to know where you are getting this kinder, gentler version of the rewrite of WWII. The US spent billions to develop the nuclear bomb, at the time the most expensive undertaken ever, by man. It was supposed to be used against Germany but Japan draw the short straw, remember the sneak attack at Pearl remember the Arizona, we got our monies worth when we nuked the Japs by saving many hundreds of thousands of GIs. The Japs wanted the destruction of the US and were willing to fight to the last man for the Emperor to achieve that.

Today most Japanese understand why we did what we did in response to their aggression. THEY are now a loyal ally of the US, one of the most loyal, at least up to Obama.

We can thank Roosevelt and Truman for having the guts to win WWII.

Japan, WW2 era, was a much more powerful version of what North Korea is today. Same type of Cult mentality and worshiping Dear Leader, many of the same objectives. The Naysayers also said "Democracy" was impossible under the Shinto religion(true in so far as you sit back and let the Shinto cultist have their way and let Justice be ignored).
