That is exactly the only damn thing a Hugo was good for, getting you killed just like that.

These kinds of cars are worse than Bicycles, at least you can try to get off the Bike where you are folded and buckled into one of these stupid ass monstrosities.

I mean look at this thing compared to the persons size:

RE: Still want a Smart car?
I remember in the fall of 1980 me and 4 other guys picked up Martha McGranhan's VW Beetle convertible and pushed it into the lobby of Jones College North and re-assembled the buildings' doors behind it.

She was pissed about 7 in the morning of the next day.

I knew it wasn't a Hugo, I was just taking us back to the time of that Masterpiece Automobile, "The Hugo", that got so many people killed that it "WAS" a "Green Car Alright", Green Grass Growing Over Your Grave.

I was lumping all these stupid types of Death Traps into one huge roll and it is a Roll of the Dice to try to survive in one of these "Things" if a 3 Year Old hits you with his Tricycle.

Nice color, though.

Not sure why some of you seem so angry that people own smart cars. No one is forcing you to buy them (yet).

YEP, now that is a really SMART CAR !!!!!!!!

When you get Jammed Slammed between two behemoth monster trucks, it just turns its self into an Accordion and waits until the Behemoths are off of you and it straightens its self back out good as new.

I am most sure all the survivors were happy as punch when this was all over with.

Maybe it's because people are driving death traps while they day dream about saving the planet.

Somebody manufactures and sells a coffin with wheels where the chances of death are substantially higher than a normal sedan, yet the driver of the car would probably get a ticket for not wearing his seatbelt.

As for the "no one is forcing you to buy them..." I think Obama signed off on legislation yesterday increasing MPH to something like 32 or 36 MPH. In order to meet that average you know manufacturers are going to make cars smaller and smaller while the government makes large car ownership more and more costly.

I'm not angry, but I am thoroughly amused when I see one. Especially in yellow.

....yeah, it's the (yet) that bothers me.

As for people in smart cars, I'm not angry with them. Hell, I'd drive one if I lived in Manhattan. Atlanta, or, in this case, NO? Not a f'n chance. It's not that I don't trust myself, it's that I don't trust the 95% of morons on the road next to me.

Geesh indeed. As pointed out above, that photo does not show a smart car, it's an SUV. And, it's only a portion of the SUV - it was hit off center (read the Snopes link). A lot of very sturdy cars won't survive being compressed between a couple of loaded dump trucks.

Anyone here want to complain about motorcycles?

RE: Still want a Smart car?
I would consider a smart car as the technology, practicality, and the numbers increase. Until then I'll just get one with good gas mileage.

We have been using the internal combustion engine for over 100 years. I'm pretty sure some large strides could be made in the way of fuel efficiency. Look at the new Jetta DTi, stellar gas mileage, we need to embrace diesel in this country, not shun it.

I don't want a Smart car or any other car, I want an automated people-mover system that I don't have to purchase and maintain and that is safe.
