Wow, great job guys! I bet that's gonna bring some great money to WKU! At least Kentucky has enough sense to play you, same with Florida and FIU... Wonder what's wrong with Alabama lol....? 03-banghead

As well as UK travels, I guess we don't have to worry about WKU and any attendance rules.

I will definately be rooting for Western KY in those games. Their coach will probably accuse WKU of "cheating" by stealing their signs.

I'll be cheering on wku as well, but funny you should mention stealing signs and wku in the same sentence. That was the reason Middle Tennessee stopped playing western after the game in '91.

RE: WKU signs 4 year deal to play UK in Football
Are you all actually bringing up something from nearly 2 decades ago? Jeez... Why not just find something from the 50's or 60's to ***** about that while you're at it? After all, we're both still the same programs (with the same coaches, players, administration, etc) from then, right? Get over it already.

Back on topic...

Yeah, it's great we're playing UK in football, but why not ask them why they won't put us on the basketball schedule with a deal similar to this. We got 4 with Louisville in basketball as well (2 in Louisville, 1 in Nashville, 1 in BG). I don't believe UK has ever come to Diddle.

It isn't just Alabama. Most of the SEC schools will gladly play the SBC schools as long as they are not in state. LSU and Florida seem to be the exception. But a pair of NC's each will give you that flexibility.

Here's the list. Several schools have played in addition to this list, but it was well before the SBC, so I didn't include those unless they have also played after the start of the SBC.

Arkansas State:
Alabama - 2008
Auburn - 2006
Georgia - 2001
Ole Miss - 1998-2004. 2001 game was in Jonesboro. Also, they have played over 20 times against each other, dating back to 1914.
Tennessee - 2007

Arkansas seems to be missing.

Florida Atlantic:
Kentucky - 2007
Florida - 2007
South Carolina - 2006

Hey, at least Florida was willing to play them.

Florida International:
Alabama - 2006
Arkansas - 2007

And Florida is playing them this year.

Louisiana:
Arkansas - a few times in the 90s, and one more in 2002.
LSU - 21 times total, but since 1938, they only played in 2002 and 2006.
South Carolina - 2003, 2007.
Tennessee - 1992, 2007.

Both the LSU games in the SBC era were scheduled when Saban was there, and he had gone on record back then as saying he liked to play the in-state schools. He did it at Michigan State. He did it at LSU.

Louisiana-Monroe:
Alabama - 2006-2007
Arkansas - 8 times between 1996 and 2008.
Auburn - 7 times between 1994 and 2008.
Florida - 1998, 2001.
Georgia - 1994, 1997, 2005.
Kentucky - 1994, 1997, 2006.
LSU - 2003.
Ole Miss - 2002-03, 2008

Same thing as above. 2003 was right in the middle of the Saban era at LSU.

MTSU:
Alabama - 2002, 2005
Florida - 2000, 2004
Georgia - 2003
Kentucky - 2002, 2008
LSU - 2001, 2007
Ole Miss - 2001
Miss. State - 1999-2000, 2008
South Carolina - 2006
Tennessee - 2002
Vanderbilt - 12 between 1915 and 1956, plus 2001-02, 2005.

Again, it is clearly obvious that MTSU is head and shoulders above the league in scheduling SEC opponents. I think they had actually played all but one of the SEC teams at some point. Just about all of them are road games, but it is great exposure to play in as many of these places as possible. Not many in the SEC know about SBC schools, but I'm sure all of them have heard of MTSU.

North Texas:
Alabama - 1995, 2002.
Arkansas - 7 times between 1947 and 1972, plus 2003, 2007.
LSU - 1995, 1999, 2005, 2008.

Troy:
Arkansas - 2002, 2007.
Florida - 2007.
Georgia - 2007.
LSU - 2004, 2008.
Miss. State - 2001, 2002.
South Carolina - 2004-05.

With future games scheduled against Tennessee.

I'd loved to see Louisville on our schedule the same years we play sUK. Let's get all the in-state FBS teams play each other for true bragging rights.

LP Field is the closest major field to WKU.

Does the attendance at LP Field count for wku's home games?

I don't have a problem with it if it does, but I know UL-Monroe has received grief from other quarters for its deal with Arkansas.
