My cop buddy in IL has funny stories about how his first police chief didn't allow facial hair, but was OK with shaved heads. Next chief rolls in, OK's facial hair but doesn't allow shaved heads.

Out here tattoos are huge, people are covered with them but so are the gang bangers. Even though I fully believe a tattoo does not make or break a cop's performance, I do look at people differently if they're covered with them or have face piercings.

.

I don't blame them and I have a Tattoo so I speak from a Tattooed persons point of view.

One of the first things you are taught in the Academy is to STAY LOOKING SHARP at ALL TIMES and keep your Patrol Unit Washed and Clean to Sparkling.

Academy True Training Story: Patrolman makes a Traffic Stop on an Escaped Murderer. Patrolman has it all under control and is about to make the arrest. The Murderer is a Lifer and knows it is no use to try to fight or run, they know where he is now.

Patrolman walks up and tells Murderer to put his hand behind his back, Murderer happens to look down as he takes his hands off the car trunk and in less than a minute, the Patrolman is dead. He leaves a Wife and 2 Children.

When recaptured just up the road and taken in to Custody, he was asked "WHY did you kill this Patrolman" ......

He answered, "Because when I first looked at him, every piece of his Uniform was in Perfect Order with nothing out of place, then when I turned to take my hands off the trunk to let him Hand Cuff me, I saw his Shoes - - they were Dirty and Unpolished and I knew then that I could take him and I did it just for the fun of it.

Murdered and left a Wife and 2 loving, grieving Children because you were too lazy to take care of ALL of your Gear .... sick ass world baby.

The Murderer said the classy way this Patrolman Wore his uniform, he knew he would be a fighter, but seeing his shoes all screwed up, the Murderer knew he was Weak and he took advantage.

What do you write on this Cops Grave Stone so his Children can read it for ever more, "Here Lies John Doe Who Loved His Uniform, but Hated Polishing His Boots" ... what a waste.

My response should be predictable. You should be free to mutilate your body in any fashion you wish. Employers should also be able to hire who in the hell they wish based on whatever criteria they choose... As long as it is done at the time of employment and both parties agree to the work stipulation against body mutilation or smoking or any other thing..I see no damn problem. I have NO problem with ANY type of descrimimation by employers. Yes...That includes race, creed, religion, health status or if you just look like a dumb***.

The consumer should be able to discourage behavior in the marketplace that they deem bad by simply not doing business with them. Ostracism should be the way society punishes those that act in ways it deems undesirable.

Let me be clear...I oppose descrimination of ANY form. I just do not want to use the force of the state to be used to effect change...I want the marketplace to be the driver of societal morays.

If you don't like the policies of an employer...go elsewhere to work and elsewhere to do business. This is all that is needed. The rest will take care of itself. Those that are bad actors in the workplace will not get quality employees and will not get business.
