Man...People are sure touchy about cloth with symbols on it.
What's wrong with patriotism having a symbol? Sports teams have symbols and people go ga-ga over them.
Nothing wrong with it. I'm not into flag worship...but..I understand the emotional attachment that some have for the flag.
I have to say though that I find nothing wrong with flying it upside down or even burning it either..I'd say it would not be a good idea to do because of the anger that you may incur..but..as long as it is "your" property...you have a right to do with it as you please.
I'm not a fan of flag burning or flag related protests..but...I'm not going to do what the cops did and steal the mans flag. Theft is theft. Why did these cops not face charges? I guess as long as you have the power of the state behind you it does not matter if you break the laws that you swore to uphold. We don't even need to go into the constitutionality issues of this.
If you wish to be free...you must allow others the same freedom. As long as theft, fraud or violence is not involved, ostracism seems the only appropriate option in dealing with free expression that one does not like.
I guess it would be ok for someone who thought the police were violent gangsters to go over and steal a department shield or flag because they did not like the way they looked. I think not.

Just to point it out, that's not Obama. That's photoshopped. It's actually William Ayers that's in that photo.
Don't know if that post was in jest or not, just sayin'.

The link didn't work, so i searched it and I'm assuming the article was the one in WI. Flying it upside in distress is for something like a sinking ship, in which it is the only way to signal to others. Not for some petty reason like bankruptcy. If anything, the fact that this man is a vet makes it even less acceptable.

I was trying to get Robert N to come to Barry's rescue, again.

Bankruptcy caused by bureaucrats. He put 200k into his business then the bureaucrats just arbitrarily decided not to allow him to open. I'm not sure about his method of protest..but..I agree with his disgust. I don't understand why formerly wearing a uniform would make this any more or less acceptable. The cloth with symbols did belong to him. What gave anyone the right to remove it? I can see ostracizing him, writing editorials and verbally rebuking him...but...not violating his private property.
All this nationalistic fervor over flags is dangerous IMO.
