Traditions
I will be honest. I was not too familiar with most of your schools before joining this messageboard. Since that time, I have read wikipedia, institutional websites, and other sources of information to try and get a better picture of our potential (should you have us) future conference mates

One thing that I love most about Colleges and Universities is how history and folklore come together to make traditions. What are some of your favorite traditions at your university?

We (at ASU) had to do away with all of them.

I would have said that your tradition is one of basketball excellence, but hey, that's just me!

RE: Traditions
Let me jump in before this thread gets completely derailed. I was looking for something like Annual Events, Landmarks, or something that you think is unique about your school.

Annual Events -
BobcatBuild : An annual community service day that encourages thousands of Texas State students, faculty and staff to complete hundreds of service projects in San Marcos as a way of saying "thank you" for the community's continued support of the university.

BobcatPause :This event provides the Texas State community with a time to remember and honor Texas State faculty, staff, students, alumni and special friends who died during the preceding year.

Soupbox Derby : Registered student organizations build homemade cars and race them against each other on Bobcat Trail during Homecoming Week.

Landmarks:
Victory Star : The Victory star stands on top of Jackson Hall (the tallest point on campus). It is lit up after a Bobcat win

The Fighting Stallions : Located in the Center of campus, they represent a free speech zone. Campus lore states that rubbing the stallion's junk will bring you good luck.

RE: Traditions
Sorry, we've got a bunch of jokesters up at WKU. It's just the way we roll.

WKU's biggest "tradition" is the Red Towel. It's a huge part of WKU as a whole. I'll see if I can find the story behind the red towel (it has to do with legendary Head Coach Edgar Allen "E.A." Diddle) and I'll try to post it soon. It's time to leave work right now though, so "peace out"!

The WKU Red Towel:

http://www.wku.edu/redtowel.html

Every freshman receives a Red Towel with the Fight Song printed on it. Alumni still cherish the Red Towel and bring it everywhere they go. Alumni and Friends submit pictures to the Alumni office of themselves with their Red Towel throughout the globe. http://picasaweb.google.com/wkualumniassociation . It has become a great tradition! Before anyone else had the Towel-Waving tradition (including Stealers), WKU had it!

Second place has to be Big Red. One o the most recognizable mascots out there. Winner of many awards and several spots on ESPN and inducted to the Mascot Hall of Fame, Big Red is a great tradition!

Tradition or Campus Legend? On the southwestern corner of the MTSU campus, diagonally across from the presidents house is the Davis Market. Davis Market is currently under renovation due to a collapsing roof. The roof is only a single testament to the utter craphole of a building it was. However, where else could your buy a $5 milk jug of beer they pour for you out of a keg and a can of beanie wennies?? Campus legend state that once you enter the Davis Market you're destined to return to Murfreesboro, periodically throughout your life. The only way to break this curse is to urinate on Tennessee's Geographic center monument approximately 1 mile north of campus. Google: legend of davis market

Sports traditions include:
Underacheiving in Men's basketball03-banghead
The Raider Walk (though location has changed)
Tailgating in the grove
Being ignored by the local media 03-hissyfit
My favorite tradition was the gameball relay to Vanderbilt. Each participant ran a mile of the 30+ miles to Vandy, but that ended after we beat them 3 out of 3 in the modern era. They won't play us again until like 2015.04-chairshot

RE: Traditions
We used to have a tradition during home football games where the Kappa Sigs would fire off a cannon after every WKU score. not sure if they still do that now or not.

Good idea for a post, Chris. I've been reading up on SBC schools and their traditions too, so I wish I had thought of it.
P.S. some of you guys are too funny! I think humor is the best tradition. 04-cheers
