White Sox and Halladay
Anybody have ESPN Insider or hear anything on the radio about the Sox getting involved in the Halladay sweepstakes? Any info on what they're offering etc? Thanks

i've been following this for a few weeks since halladay was put on the trade market...
check http://www.mlbtraderumors.com
Beckham is untouchable, possible package including Viciedo, Flowers, Clayton Richard, Poreda among others.

As far as I can tell, the only way the White Sox get Halladay, is if they give up Beckham. And we all know, that ain't gonna happen.

It better not happen, Mr. Beckham is a keeper and worth more than Halladay at this point. How much do you want to bet Garland returns to the Sox?

Ehehehehehehehe.
So if they were both free agents, Beckham would get more money than Halladay?
Or in a trade, Beckham would bring more of a return than Halladay?
Uh, no.

Beckham is worth more in terms of organization building. Honestly I would not feel comfortable with a straight up trade Beckham for Halladay even though that can't take place, I'd feel the Jays got the better end of that deal. I was listening to the radio today and heard Beckham could not even be traded before the deadline due to rookie contract details, so it is a non-point.

RE: White Sox and Halladay
Unless a team can afford to re-sign Halladay i don't think it would be worth it for them to make the trade. Average pitchers are commanding big contracts and a pitcher of Halladay's magnitude is gonna get a huge contract. I don't see the Sox being able to sign him and we all know that Jerry Reinsdorf doesn't like to give out long-term contracts. It's not worth it for the Sox or most MLB teams unless they can afford to get into a bidding war with the Dodgers, Red Sox, or Yankees.

RE: White Sox and Halladay
I think it's also a fact that Halladay has a full no-trade clause, so he'd have to agree to any trade at this point.
In response to 7, right now, you're right, Beckham's not worth the same as Halladay. However, many scouts and baseball experts are saying that Beckham is the best pure hitter to come out of the White Sox farm system since Frank Thomas.
So let's just say '93 or '94 Frank Thomas versus current Roy Halladay...hmmm...

RE: White Sox and Halladay
Halladay is my favorite pitcher in the league, but I don't want him on the Sox given what they would have to give up. The Sox are in a transition point right now, and for once they have some depth in their farm system. When we are going to be leaning on those guys in the next couple years, why would we trade for someone that will help you win now when we are going to be built to win a couple years down the road?
I'd be fine with trading Richard, but not Beckham, Poreda or either Danks. The Score was making it sound like you would have to give up Beckham and Floyd or Danks, and that would just be dumb to go through with.

Another matter is the fact that next year, the Sox are going to need people who can swing the bat. Dye and Thome will likely be gone and we're going to be relying on guys like Beckham and potentially Viciedo, if he's ready, to pick up the slack. Kenny won't give up Beckham, or any of the Top 3 starters. If it was someone such as Richard, Poreda, or even Ramirez, then I'd be all for it. But not who Toronto is going to want in return.

RE: White Sox and Halladay
Im a big sox fan and i would be happy if the sox went out and just got a decent middle of the rotation guy (Brad Penny is a perfect fit in my mind & was an ace at one time) that you wouldn't have to give up to much for. Or you go out and get Dan Haren who has very nasty stuff but wouldn't be as stiff of a price tag as Halladay, but you would still have to include Poreda or Jordan Danks
