I don't think it's race. The director should lose his job, unless more people came than invited. That could of happened too.

You can be sure that race played the major part in this. The argument that the pool was overcrowded was an excuse. They surely could have regulated the number in the pool instead of refunding the money. It is so transparent that even a moron like me can see though this.03-lmfao

I still say though that it is private property and one should be allowed to be a racist on their property. I hate racists and I just ostracize them from my life when I find them. I suggest that that is the appropriate action here.03-idea

I think it was the comment of "changing the complexion of the pool" that brought race into it. When I saw the president of the association, I thought this guy isn't a racist, he's a person that complicates situations.

RE: Private Pool Bans Minority Campers
A couple of points - this "club" isn't exactly an exclusive country club. Look here - there ain't a lot to either the neighborhood or the club itself. The other thing that people seem to miss is that the club was paid nearly 2000 for the kids to be there for a week. If safety were a concern, it seems like a better way to handle this would've been to have 20-30 kids go to the pool at a time rather than have all of them there at once. (Go to their web page and you get the apropos message "403 Forbidden").

Only two things seem clear to me - one is that this was amateur hour at the club's management. Two is that this club won't survive the week as a private enterprise.

Don't project on to me. I certainly don't know it. But I do know that the MSM has always gone to the racism well when things get tight. Seems more like a ploy by the paper, playing the public for a bunch of marks.

If I want to see a work, I'll watch Jerry Lawler beat up Andy Kaufmann.

Ok...I agree with the media race card ploy....but...I don't know about this case. Its seems pretty clear that some whiteys got pissed because some black kids were in their pool. Hey..It is a private pool. I really could care less. They should have had better sense than to get into this situation...So...WTF...Learn not to be stupid.03-lmfao

I don't think anybody is arguing where they should have been let in or not. It's should they have been kicked out and called names after being invited.

Who the **** cares? This isn't news. It was a private pool. The owners didn't want these kids there. I could care less if they said "I hate black people!" as they threw them out on the street. All you people talking about the kids being invited in free need to reread the article and the bolded part above. Money was paid for these kids to be their, so Mach's insane movie theory goes out the window. Also the management knew these kids were coming, therefore proper arrangement for safety should have been made or adding 65 extra kids at the time they should up was not considered a safety issue.

Actually I was thinking that you should use some more discretion in reading the article. YOu have made many assumptions:
1 Reliability of the author
2 Reliability of "witnesses"
3 Motives of concerned parents including
a Why they joined this pool
b Why they pulled their kids

And there are a whole lot of relevant details that aren't mentioned or discussed in this article, such as

1 Ages of kids
2 Previous discussions by members re: renting the pool out

There is plenty more to add to both lists.

Furthermore, the author has let her opinion flavor the article completely, it's impossible to separate fact from opinion here. THis is not uncommon, some might argue that this is inevitable, but I don't get the same tone when I read WSJ articles. This article is crap, and it's worse than worthless, it's destructive.

Torch,

First off I did not make a reference to race in my rebuttal. My post was based on fact and making a few logical assumptions.

Arrangements were made with the management of the pool, that is a fact as evidenced by the returning of the fees paid by the group. If arrangements were made is it not logical to assume the pool owners would make sure that there would be no safety concerns, That is all I am saying. I have no problems with you anyone attempting to defends the actions as not being racist. I even gave a post on an article more friendly to the pool management that showed them some support.

Then I misunderstood.

Frankly the safety concerns could either be:
1 An oversight by Sen Mgmt (you say it's not logical, but people make mistakes.)
2 A miscommunication by Sen Mgmt w/ the scheduler
3 No-show by a scheduled lifeguard
or IMO most likely
4 An excuse by Sen Mgmt to explain the expulsion.

I believe those kids were kicked out at the parents' requests. However, that doesn't automatically indicate "racism." But, since the majority of people have come to that conclusion thanks to the wretched excuse for newspaper writing, the Pool Manager had to come up w/ an excuse to save face.

I think they may have not expected 65 to show up at once. You sell memberships based on the size of you facility and how many historically are using it at once. I can't imagine a pool that regularly is close to capacity telling 65 new members that they have room for those numbers, when they don't. If this guy knew they would bring all 65 every Monday, the only way to accomodate those numbers would be to tell other PAYING members that they no longer have access to the pool on Mondays.

Go ahead and protest. I just don't want to see it or read about it in the media.

P.S. It is private property, so if I was them, I'd call and have the police haul their asses off to jail. However, then the media will really get involved because Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would be on that like stink on a monkey.
