I don't see how that became necessarily a black thing. Same with watermelon. I'd assign it more to the southern culture in general. Nothing beats fried chicken and watermelon on a hot sunny day. I did kinda grew out of the sweet tea deal though.

Brings me to another point. "Soul Day". This was Thursday at the mess hall. I guess a buncha yankee spoons, through their own prejudices, decided to come up with food to serve that they thought celebrated black culture. First time I ate it, I had to check my skin. They were serving the same damn thing I had eaten for my entire life. BBQ chicken, ribs, corn on the cob, etc.

News Flash Reb, you are black. 05-stirthepot

Jeezzee, Reb, My fried chicken and watermelon post got deleted. You must be charmed.

Al, Jessee, Magic, Brooke, and a hellalotof others made fools of themselves. Yes, he was a great entrainer. But a hero, a humanitarian -- No.

He could have lent his name and did some extraordinary things for the world, but he was wraped too tight and too self centered. His constant drug use proves it. and it killed him.

I was embarassed for him, and for setting black people back 30 years in less than 1 minute.
Obviously you two missed the point he was making. He was surprised that a big star like Michael Jackson actually ate KFC.

Everyone knows the black people and chickens are quite fond of one another, therefore I do not see how the statement set us back.

Speaking for myself, you misunderstood my comment. Lemme 'splain.

When Johnson said his day with Jackson was the best, finest, most important, memorable or what ever (I forget exactly what he said) my thinking was, If I was him my finest day might be one of the following.

Winning college and NBA championships
Signing a multi-million dollar contract and/or getting my first big check from it.
Getting my own TV show
Being on the Dream Team and getting a gold medal
My wedding day
The birth of my kids
The day I realized I can get women by snapping my finger
Being told I have HIV but have the money to prevent it from going to AIDS.

Sitting on the floor with a celebrity wouldn't rank as high as any of the above.
