FB: Significance of July 6?
someone (EagleAttack?) indicated that players (returnees? newcomers? both?) should be returning to school today???? Hope I got the gist of the post. I assume they come for unofficial workouts.

Sorry, I looked for the post and never found it.

Anyway, I'm sure posters are interested in who came, who didn't, any suprises (players signed after the Feb signing date), maybe transfer(s), walkons, etc.

Do we believe that Thomas (S, L'ville) is the only known transfer (not counting the JUCO transfers)?

Will LB Moffett come as a qualifer, non-qualifer, not come?

good questions. the strength of our most recent recruiting class will be determined by how many of the players qualify academically.

Just "voluntary" workouts....I understand camp start date is Aug. 9 this year. It's nice to see that games are not starting until Sept, playing in August just ain't right...IMO

I'll try to get the scoop on some of the more intriguing names we have been discussing as to whether they have reported.

Word is that three are not at all being conted on, Moffett, Delano and another recruit from MI.

I never counted on Moffett but Delano Johnson was counted on big at DE.

That hurts.

Any particular reasons these three are not coming?

How are summer workouts going?

Yes, he is a JUCO and that is the problem.

Will he be a no-show and maybe washout as a D-I FB player???

Man, if it's true, and he can't make the grades at a Juco to play at Eastern.....not a good sign. Even if he has the physical tools, you need to be smart to be effective at this level. I know a lot of our guys and they are bright kids. If you have ever taken a look at the playbook, even on the Defensive side of the ball - there's a ton of information these guys need to know, and they have to know it so well that they can execute it in a split second...

RE: FB: Significance of July 6?
That could be....I'm familiar with clearing house requirements for players coming out of high school. and the complexity of the requirements might suprise some people. I'm not sure how it works for juco transfers, or if they even have clearing house requirements.

It seems for a college transfer that the only requirements would have to do with credit hours that are found acceptable to transfer by EMU. Odd, since Leonard appears to be in, and comes from the same school. I wonder of Delano failed to meet GPA reqirements for transferable credit??

Regardless, if he's not coming it sucks. As I mentioned before, I think his coming in and playing well was important for the DL. Perhaps Kalven Seilis will be able to step up along with the athletic Jevon Reese. I understand that Seilis has improved a great deal since spring ball. He's 6'5" and now in the 250's. If not, I would not be surprised to see Orhman shift back to end...

Damn Steve, you screwed up my whole plan!!!

Plans shouldn't be made until the first Game Notes are out.

This time of year most news is bad news... 03-banghead

Well Steve, you are right about that. It was a good scoop by you anyway...I had been hearing the same thing about Moffet, and was really starting to wonder about Delano, since the other JUCO's were already in for workouts, and he was still MIA.

I'm wondering about the 3rd player....the one you mentioned from Michigan. Do you know who it is? I know McCord, the DL from Detriot is working out so it's not him. Was it one of the 22 listed in this recruiting class?

Not a name bandied about on this forum. Think a DB from the western side of MI who was not thought to be a qualifier.

If you are coming from a JUCO into D-1 sports, you have to graduate with an associates degree or have at least 48 transferrable credit hours. If going to D-2, you only have to have 12 transferrable credit hours.

The DB from the west side of the state might be Kep Goodwin?
