You ask who, not who and why. If you aren't familiar with Rusty Smith, you shouldn't even ask they question04-chairshot

there, fixed. don't be difficult just for the sake of being difficult. I know Rusty Smith well, but that doesn't mean he will be the best QB in this league this season. Factor in who is around him, will he put up the best numbers?

Rusty had a down year last year, so I wouldn't call Rusty Smith the automatic best QB in the belt.

Game by game, Levi Brown and Rusty Smith were neck and neck in passing efficiency:
http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?ye...f&site=org

Corey Leonard and Joe Craddock actually had better passing efficiencies, so why is Rusty Smith the hands down best? One of the reasons Rusty has so many yards in the first place is how much they throw as opposed to how much they run the ball. Passing efficiency tells the whole story, and he was clearly beat by other sunbelt quarterbacks who dont get as much acclaim.

I'm in no way saying Levi should be the best either, we throw a lot as well. To say Rusty is a no brainer means you haven't really thought about it.

Dasher has a chance to be. With the new offense, if he throws the ball smartly, he'll rack up the yards and points by sheer amount of plays.

As of right now though, he's not the best. The door to being the best in the league is unlocked. All he has to do is open it.

I agree, just because rusty was good in 2007, doesn't mean he'll be that good in 2009. Though, as far as who's around him, I'd say he's got a pretty damn good returning cast, considering the Harmon Hop is coming. I think Troy and FAU could both have Top 25 offenses this year. Troy ended 27th, FAU 42nd. Very good opportunities here.

Rusty Smith is #1 and Corey Leonard of ASU would be #2. Just for drill name one pre-season magazine or legit sports site that doesn't have Smith as the Belt #1 QB.

I get an annual copy of the Dodge family Christmas newsletter, and they seem to have Riley ranked pretty high up there.

FAU returns many targets for Rusty Smith - so he could be the most productive QB this year. Riley Dodge is probably the most talented QB. IMO Leornard, Brown, and McCall are very solid QBs but Rusty will be the most productive.

IMO Jamie Hampton and Riley Dodge will be the top QBs in the conference next year...

i hope you're right. we're going to need some solid QB play out of him next year when we lose so many starters.

Rusty Smith.

As stated above, ALL the weapons are back, he had a so-so Junior season ( so he's more motivated), and I REALLY believe that Jeff Brohm will make some tweaks to his style and preperation that will push him to the next level.

As one of the FIU posters said, there is NO one else in the SunBelt that you want running your offense under 2 minutes with the game on the line. Rusty will find a way to beat you 9 out of 10.

I feel very confident about him next year. I watched the Ohio State and Oklahoma State games last year and Jamie showed a lot of potential (even against Okie State). I like his mobility and passing skills on the run (!!). Further, he can be relatively accurate: at Ohio State (Passing: 30-43; 69.8% completion rate in his 3rd career start). His completion rates against FAU and Okie State weren't that high but he was victimized by several dropped balls by his receivers - if I remember correctly.

Yep, that was me, and (I believe) that was prior to our overtime loss to them last season, by the way.... and we all know how that turned out to be.

Rusty Smith.

Cory Leonard is excellent as well, plus the QB's of Troy and MTSU should be included as well.

I'm hoping McCall does just a little bit better than last season, which was good, in my opinion. He will have more/better weapons at his disposal as WR and RB's, plus the entire OL is coming back in addition to several OL recruits.

i think it's a close race between Corey Leonard, Levi Brown, and Rusty Smith. All three are top-notch athletes. It'll come down to who has the best team around them.

Spot on.
If Corey had the same line as last year, this wouldn't even be up for discussion.

Yeah, but until FAU starts developing that talent further, we'll be in the mix for the championship.
