As for the Chili Peppers, they disappointed me at Lolla a few years ago. So did Rage. It must be hard to play to half of Grant Park.
Make sure to tailgate and get hammered before the concert! God I love Alpine Valley!!! They have too few concerts there.
Seeing as it is my first day as a stagehand at Alpine, I'll probably stay sober haha.
Oh wow, sweet!!!

Best: Cheap Trick...Even if you do not like their music there is no band that beats them live, not a single one.

saw them in the 80's, they were good, but not the best.

This survey also depends on when you saw the bands and what venue...

best (all of these were in the late 70's or early 80's)...
Bruce Springsteen (at the Riviera in 1979 or 1980) Unbelievable before he went big time).
Talking Heads (crowd was just as entertaining when you're a sober teenager)
John Cougar (great seats)
Van Halen with David Lee Roth
Rolling Stones (a long time ago)
Los Lobos

worst...
can't remember

That was one of the big things in regards to the debate over the Chili Peppers.

Most of the people who said they weren't impressed by them saw them when John Frusciante was out of the band. Those that saw them when he was back playing guitar say they liked them.

Best: Dave Matthews Band. Hate all you want, there is no better live band.

Umphrey's McGee, The Roots, Pearl Jam.

I haven't seen him, but I also hold the belief that Bruce Springsteen in his prime was the best live performer in the history of music.

worst: Goo Goo Dolls were eh at the convo. Jack Johnson wasn't that good of a show, although I feel bad tossing Jack in here. I saw him at Alpine, so of course I compared it to DMB and it just wasn't even remotely close. Still love his music though.

The best: Without a doubt it is Trans-Siberian Orchestra. They put on one helluva show. Went to my first TSO concert last year over Thanksgiving weekend, and they put on a 3 hour concert. It was absolutely fantastic.

The worst: Toby Keith; too rednecky.

I would only go see them to check out the chicks. Of course I would have to pretend to be a huge fan and say that I "celebrate their entire collection" to try and get some play.

Saw The Roots when they were at EMU in 1999. That was an great concert. Matchbox 20 was great too at the convo at EMU in 2000. Lenny Kravitz was great according to some friends of mine, but I didn't get to go to the concert in 1998 at EMU.

Worst: Fugees and Tribe Called Quest. It was just because the concert was in Bowen Field House and the accoustics were crap that night b/c they were gettig ready for the Bill Clinton campaign stop in 1996.

Best: UFO (w/Michael Schenker on guitar), Rory Gallagher, AC/DC, Michael Schenker Group

Worst: I've actually been lucky enough (or maybe selective enough) never to see a really bad concert.

RE: Best and Worst Live Bands
Best Concert: Nine Inch Nails – Carver-Hawkeye Arena 1994 (Marilyn Manson opened)

Other Notables: Primus (Aragon Ballroom)
Les Claypool’s Frog Brigade (Vic Theater)
Clutch (saw them at Otto's last month in addition to the many other times I have seen them)
Cowboy Mouth (any venue)

Worst: Rush – (Peoria civic center) - (Primus opened but there must have been totally different sound guys because Rush sounded crappy)
O.A.R. (Convo Center) – too many drunk high school kids. (Maybe I’m getting to old?)

Also to chime in on the subject of the Chili Peppers, I have never seen them live but have wanted to.
I have seen Dave Matthews at Alpine twice. Each time was Okay. I’m not a huge Dave fan.

Saw the Roots back in 01 as part of that festival/tour thing Moby had. They were great.

Also, Incubus was really good.

U2 has really mastered the big venue spectacle element of a live show.

RE: Best and Worst Live Bands
Best: Rush - They always strive to recreate their songs the same way they played them on the albums. The epitome of musicianship. Plus the crowd is such a diehard group and into every song, it's hard not to enjoy yourself.

Honorable mention - Rob Zombie, DMB, STP, Tool

Worst - I can't say that I've ever hated a concert but Ozzy does not put on a good show. Zak Wylde overplays so much it's hard to listen to.
