RE: Gordon Beckham is coming to the Show
saw this a few hours ago. im for it. the sox are in no way a contender this year so it'll be interesting to see them bring young guys up and trade away some of the previous pieces of the puzzle. beckham has been hitting .320 in the minors so he's had success so far this year. i'll be happy if he hits .270...downside is if he struggles badly and gets mentally down.

I'm a little surprised, I figured they'd give him a little more time to get use to 3rd and teams are always leery to start the arbitration clock on their top prospects, that's why Longoria wasn't on the Rays opening day roster.

RE: Gordon Beckham is coming to the Show
I want to say this is really a move about Fields- but he's been alright the last week and a half.

So, really, I think this is a move that is just about where Beckham is at offensively (he's currently something of a butcher defensively it seems), how poorly Betemit has done and the hole the team has with Quentin down.

You can't call the Sox non-contenders when they're 3.5 out on June 4 in a weak division. At the same time, having played both as poorly and as well as they are capable of in the past month- the next stretch will say a lot about whether they're the good Sox, the bad Sox or somewhere between. And I maintain that unless the Tigers pull away, somewhere between can make a team a contender in the AL Central.

RE: Gordon Beckham is coming to the Show
Had to bring him up. The 2010 sox will be better for it. The 09' sox???.... they can still make a run....that outing the other night by Gavin Floyd was impressive...... Sox have the relief pitching and it appears the starters are goo-o-o d enough. Have to swing better.

I am a SPORTS nut and the difference between the Cubs and the Sox is that the Cubs are more talented but WU$$IES.... they just can't find the stones to man up......

the sox aren't eliminated but the only chance they have to contend is because the AL central is so weak. i said it in april, whoever wins the central is going to have 82-87 wins and the next 2-3 teams will all be between 75-82.

"no way a contender" - how do you come up with that?

I'm working hard this morning so I can take the afternoon and go to Comiskey to see Gordon Beckham's debut.

RE: Gordon Beckham is coming to the Show
I'd have to think this lineup could win it all. This is baseball.. just need to get to the playoffs.
Alexei, Q, Thome, Dye, Konerko, AJP, Beckham, platoon of Getz and Nix at 2B and a platoon of Anderson & Pods in CF. That lineup is better than the one that won it all in 2005. The starting pitching has turned it around, the bullpen is one of the better ones in the league, I wouldn't give up hope yet if I was a Sox fan.

The AL Central is weak, and if they did get to the playoffs, they have three starters in Danks, Buehrle & newly revitalized Floyd to throw out there. Not to mention KW has already shown he's willing to make a trade. The White Sox are one of the few teams that have cash to spend. In this economy, a lot of owners are going to be selling their high priced players at a discount. The White Sox can afford to take them on.

I find it hard to say this team is out of it in early June only 3.5 games back.

Tubaguy.. The White Sox brought him up late enough to not worry about the Super 2 arbitration issues. That's why you are seeing all these minor leaguers brought up now, like Matt Weiters a couple days ago, and now Beckham, Hanson of the Braves, McCutchen of the Pirates, all on the same day, and others I'm sure I've missed.

The way he was playing for AC Milan, the Sox just had to bring him in. They need a guy good on free kicks.

The WS are developing some fine talent in the minors, if they dont' believe they have a chance to contend for a title this year then bring up the better talent from AAA

He is freakishly athletic so Im pretty sure he could play soccer too. Cubs havent had a prospect like Beckham since....wow when??? I'm having trouble thinking of one.

Shawon Dunston was a very good athlete and a #1 pick.

you guys still think this team can win the WS? they could very well set a record for times shutout in a season...they lost to a pitcher with a 10+ ERA today.

Did you forget about Corey Patterson, Felix Pie, Rich Hill, Mark Prior...? Just because a minor league player is a great prospect, it doesn't mean he's going to amount to anything in the majors. It just doesn't matter as much to have a great farm system because you can buy the players through trades or free agency (like the Cubs did the last few years).
