Hope he does some jail time. Obviously he did not push, shove, yell at, or in any way try to get the guy to stop his alleged "harassment." Instead he appears to have cold-cocked the guy (surely a small guy) with extreme force intended to inflict maximum harm. If all the guy got was a broken jaw, then he is lucky. He likely has more damage. I repeat, I hope this guy does some time, in fact, he should do significant time!

I say this as a self-proclaimed Ill-ness hater.

This kid is from Batavia or St. Charles. There were some local stories on this. At least one noted that the other guy swung on him first. Of course, this guy could have taken it too far. Or, he could have protected himself and simply won the fight. However, let's not judge him at this point.

Chicago Tribune _ Illinois FB player Charged

Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn told the AP a witness reported that the victim, a 19-year-old man from Antioch, was harassing women at the bar. After Garrity confronted him, a witness said the man punched Garrity, prompting a retaliatory blow.

$hit happens. Eventually, something like this will happen at NIU.

Yes, and things like this already have. It's a non-issue IMO for anyone but UI Athletics.

This isn't an indictment of Ron Zook's Illinois football program in the least bit. Unfortunately college football abounds with douche bags and bad dudes all over the place. We've even had our share at NIU. When I was at NIU in 1984 there was an offensive lineman who beat up a Sig Chi fraternity member so severely he suffered permanent brain damage. The lineman was 270 pounds and the poor victim 155 pounds.

Anybody remember when Sam Hurd got hit in the head by a bottle at the Pike house and then ended up with a huge ass band-aid on his forehead all year? That was pretty funny (at least I thought it was).

No charges were filed, but back in 2005 when that happened (my freshman year) NIU was pretty much the wild west. You could do whatever you wanted if you were either an athlete or part of a fraternity. Things are a lot more serious now when it comes to fights and such because of many different reasons.

Who's still pissed about when Garrett Wolfe hurt his eye trying to break up a fight, costing us a chance to go the MACC in 2004?

I'd actually like to see one of our players kick some ass. It seems like we're always getting beat up. I've even heard a story about Phil Horvath getting knocked down of the steps of my old fraternity house by a former president, subsequently injuring him causing him to miss playing time.

Wow, that is a completely different story. I hope the authorities can sort it out and take appropriate action.

The time to kick ass is on the field, not off it. There's no excuse for getting into a stupid frat or bar fight. Take your aggressions out on the opposing football team, not at a party.
