North Korea launches missile over Japan
This time it worked...

SEOUL, South Korea - North Korea launched a rocket that passed over Japan on Sunday, defying calls from world leaders to scrap a plan that has caused international alarm.

The Japanese government said the rocket flew over Japan and its second booster stage had splashed down in the Pacific Ocean, indicating the launch had been successful.

The U.S. State Department confirmed North Korea had launched the rocket but had no further details.

"The projectile launched from North Korea today appears to have passed over toward the Pacific," the Japan prime minister's office said in a statement.

On the projected path, the rocket was to drop boosters to Japan's west and east on a track running southwest of Hawaii.

The United States, South Korea and Japan say the plan is actually the test of a Taepodong-2 missile, which is designed to carry a warhead as far as Alaska.

U.S. President Barack Obama said on Friday the international community would take action if North Korea went ahead with the launch to show Pyongyang it could not act with impunity. 03-lmfao 03-lmfao

Probably nothing. If we or S Korea or Japan jump on N Korea we'll be seen as bullies. If we do nothing then we'll be blamed when NK does something really bad.

Yeah, you have to be thankful that it didn't hit anybody and leave it at that.

OK!03-lmfao..but please..bare with me.03-lmfao

Now...We have a country that without dispute has WMD's and has now displayed to the world it's ability to use them. We are not talking about a country that had no ability to launch long range missiles and pose a direct threat to US soil or other major industrialized nations...Yes I am referring to our Iraq boondoggle.

Now...The fear mongers have quite a situation on their hands! Do they have the guts to face down a foe that can actually retaliate with missiles?

I bet the US will not do a DAMN thing about this situation other than complain. We will NOT engage NK other than with diplomacy....Why? We are scared of NK.
Saddam was a F'ing joke and those in power knew it. Not much to risk when you decide to kick someones ass that can not respond and attack your homeland.05-stirthepot

Let's just sit back and now see how our fear mongering leaders spin this situation.03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

The worry is that the missile can be sold to anyone who can pay the price. Iran could be in the market. They put up a brochure today.

I agree with you 100%.

But I always thought the Iraq deal was a "Strategic One" based on getting Iran sandwhiched in between two very large and potentially powerful "Military Staging Points" and just blast her off the Middle East Map by having full and complete Autonomy from all sides.

If this was ever the plan, someone must have lost it on the way to the War !!!

If you will look, we are still Technically and Legally "At War" With North Korea and what they did by firing off this Missile, was violate any Pack/Pact, Truce, Agreement, Armistice, or any other Cease Fire Agreement and thus, all Allied Nations that took part in the Korean War, have the "Obligation", to return to NK and take her out.

AND THIS JUST CRACKS MY CRACK UP:

Quote:U.S. President Barack Obama said on Friday the international community would take action if North Korea went ahead with the launch to show Pyongyang it could not act with impunity. 03-lmfao 03-lmfao

Do 'We' really have to worry about this guy doing anything other than flubbing his lines sans-teleprompter and Bowing Over to the Waist to suck some Fat Cat's Fingers - - geeze Kim Mentally Ill is oriental, what kind of Bow do you think Old Obambi is gonna give that little bastard ???

Fo, Militarily, we are too sunk in and sunk in way too deep in the Middle East to even carry out an Attack on NK and even if Obambi reinstates the "Draft", it will be at least a year before he could have enough Troops just for a Korean Campaign .... and by that time, KJI will have perfected his Missiles and will have given some to Iran, Syria, Pakistan, and who knows who else.

This "IS" a real world of hurt and it is NOT "Fear Mongering" since the "Threat is Most Scarily a Real and Present Danger" to the United States of America.

I believe and I am not panicking when I say this, that "we are about to be Toasted" ...

Sorry, just calling it like I see it.

The entire UN has been against this launch for well over two weeks, I am very interested to see how this turns out.

The NK Taepodong missile launched today is almost identical to the Iranian Shahab 3 missile they tested a couple of weeks ago.

I'd call it a 'joint development project' and I have no doubt that Iranian enginners and technicians were present for the NK test.

The bottom line... what are we going to do about it? Nothing.. just go to the UN and *****.. and they will pass another meaningless Resolution.

Meanwhile, the Japanese will see that nothing is being done about the NK problem, and guess what... they re-arm. That isn't good for the neighborhood.

The only nation that can solve this problem is China. That is where NK gets its food, and its only large scale economic ties.

But China won't do anything, such as a coup, because they don't want the problems that NK brings to the table. Poor starving people that cant contribute anything that China wants or needs. Besides, Kim Jong Il might just launch a few Scuds on China.

RE: North Korea launches missile over Japan
This ISN'T a communications bird.. it was a missile test. On these parameters it is hardly ever over North Korea.

perigee: 490 km

apogee 1,426 km

period 104 minutes, 12 seconds

inclination 40.6 degrees

UN Emergency Meeting this afternnon, on request of Japan.

But wait, there's more.... payload didn't make orbit.

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command officials acknowledged today that North Korea launched a Taepo Dong 2 missile at 10:30 p.m. EDT Saturday which passed over the Sea of Japan/East Sea and the nation of Japan.

Stage one of the missile fell into the Sea of Japan/East Sea. The remaining stages along with the payload itself landed in the Pacific Ocean.

No object entered orbit and no debris fell on Japan.

NORAD and USNORTHCOM assessed the space launch vehicle as not a threat to North America or Hawaii and took no action in response to this launch.

This is all of the information that will be provided by NORAD and USNORTHCOM pertaining to the launch.

Looks like NK may now have the most difficult part of nuke capability--the delivery vehicle.
If that means that Iran has it too, then it may soon be time for Israel to act.
For once in his life, Joe Biden may have been right when he said Obama would be tested early.
I wonder where the scientists who worked on Saddam's weapons program were during the launch.
We didn't capture them and we didn't kill them, so one would presume that they were somewhere.
I know what my guess would be.

Who wants to bet that there never was a satellite?
UN is meeting today, and looks pretty certain that nothing will be done.
Obvious how little leverage we have.
As long as we remain the world's leading debtor, we won't have much leverage.
My guess is that the Japanese will start to lose some of their reluctance to rearm.

Using the recent Iranian Omid satellite launch as a reference, the NK missile probably had a payload under 100 pounds.. assuming it had a payload.

Problem is that nobody is saying yet what really happened to the third stage/payload. But you can be sure every radar between Japan and Pearl Harbor was tracking it. Its possible that they had a problem on second-third staging and it didn't make orbit and fell into the Pacific southwest of Midway. The last NK test failed on a first stage problem.

The joint NK-Iranian missile test program will now shift back to Iran. They will wait to see what the UN does (which wont be much). The Iranians have an advantage in that they can launch south without having to shoot over another country.

You called it right. Wasted afternoon in New York. But par for the course at the UN when you are talking North Korea at the Security Council.

Forget the Japanese "Helicopter-Destroyers"...pretty soon they will be putting down keels down for "Aviation-Cruisers" that displace about 60,000 tons...

SEOUL/UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) – North Korea fired a long-range rocket on Sunday, provoking international outrage, but a divided U.N. Security Council failed at an emergency meeting to agree on a reaction to Pyongyang's defiant move.

China, the nearest North Korea has to a major ally, and Russia called on all sides for calm and restraint.

The 15-nation Security Council held a closed-door session in New York on Sunday afternoon but China and Russia had already made clear they would use their veto power to block any resolution imposing new sanctions on Pyongyang.

Western diplomats said the two countries, backed by Vietnam and Libya, sought to water down the council response.

Council members "agreed to continue consultations on the appropriate reaction by the council ... given the urgency of the matter," Mexico's U.N. Ambassador Claude Heller, who holds the body's rotating presidency, told reporters.

U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice and Japanese Ambassador Yukio Takasu both called for a clear and firm response and said they wanted to see a fresh resolution. But Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yesui said any reaction must be "cautious and proportionate."

Supposedly the French let Israeli submarines refuel out of Djibouti. That keeps them on station longer. In and out in the middle of the night and nobody would know.
