Rep. Keith Ellison taking oath of office


WASHINGTON – Barack Obama is conducting his own affirmative action program to get more Muslims in the White House.

The move began with Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn, who took his oath of office with a hand on the Quran, to solicit the resume of what he considered to be the nation's most qualified adherents of Islam.

According to the Denver Post, when White House officials heard about the program, it was put on overdrive.

So far, 45 Ivy League grads, Fortune 500 executives and government officials have been submitted for consideration.

J. Saleh Williams, program coordinator for the Congressional Muslim Staffers Association, sifted through more than 300 names as part of the search.

"It was mostly under the radar," Williams said. "We thought it would put (the president) in a precarious position. We didn't know how closely he wanted to appear to be working with the Muslim American community."

Ellison is serious about his faith. He made the pilgrimage to Mecca with the sponsorship of the Muslim American Society, an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood.

In 1991, Mohamed Akram wrote a memo for the leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood that explained its work in America as "a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and 'sabotaging' its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all other religions."

1) Why shouldn't Muslims, as well as the believers in any religion or no religion at all have an equal opportunity for any administration positions that become available?

2) Keith Elison was elected by voters in the district in which he resides; he wasn't appointed by anyone.

3) Having qualified Muslim adherents in a democratic government shows any objectively thinking person that the bile being spewn by the extremist hate filled muslim facists that the US is on a religious crusade to dominate them is just that.

I'll take a qualified person of any or no faith over a Christian who's incompetent. Lord knows we've seen more than enough of the latter.

I think you make a few good points but seeking out people who are of a specific nationality or religion to the exclusion of everyone else is bigoted and discriminatory. How would you have felt if Bush said he's looking for a few good straight, white Christian men?

Trip at times I agree with you and you're right, I have no proof to say that the majority of Muslims don't agree with violence. But you must have cited a few sources that says that every single male muslim his willing to vest up and kill you. I'd like to see them.

Right now it's not easy to get a balanced argument from either side because each side tells you that they are the victim that has been wronged.

I totally agree SMN. Your religion and lifestyle shouldn't be the thing that holds you back, but it shouldn't be the thing that gives you the edge either. That last comment is why our country is terrible about double standards.
