USS Hartford playing bumper boats again
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/us_world...it_of.html

This comes only a few years after they beached themselves in Sardinia. Hartford is becoming SUBLANT's very own USS Greeneville.

Job Openings coming soon to the USS Hartford in the Sonar section, OOD and CO. How in the hell can you miss/lose track of a diesel powered LPD?

First we run a cruiser/destroyer aground off Honolulu. Now this.

I've taken ships in and out of both places. I can't imagine how things got this screwed up either time.

What is going on with the Navy?

This is the third collision in the Straits involving a US SSN in the past 4 years.

Despite general perception, the Straits are not that narrow or constricted. At the narrowest point, it's about 50 kilometers or 30 nautical miles. I remember having gun shoots in the Straits.

There is a constricted waterway where most of the tankers go through, on the south side. Cuts off a few miles. IIRC they have a separation scheme in effect that separates the channel into an inbound side and an outbound side. But I can't imagine taking a sub through the short cut, so I'm guessing they weren't in there. Does anybody know more details?

Well, some of the military has been recruiting felons and lesser qualified people, maybe that has a little something to do with it?

Robert, even if the navy is starting to accept the lesser qualified people, those people would not be the COs, XOs, or your sonar guys. A submariner is a hard thing to become.

Robert, sometimes it is better to remain silent and be thought foolish or ignorant than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Thanks for your opinion Paul but the military HAS been hiring less qualified recruits(some even have felonies) so is it really trolling when you ask a question that has truth to it?

Btw, thanks for clearing that up Nomad(seriously).

Made a couple of inquiries, but nothing definite yet. 5th Flleet is keeping a good lid on this so far.

A polite suggestion was made that you shut your mouth, and damned if you don't get even stupider. Take my advice,... you wont,... and stop talking. Trip and no one else here is embarrassed by our friends and family in the armed forces.

While I think it's well documented that the recruiting requirements might not be as rigid in some parts of the service as in years past, I do think you can believe that the people who are recruited aren't cheering the deaths of American soldiers, or voting recruiting offices out of town, or look up to Jane Fonda and Code Pink as the epitome of American culture.

BTW, since you always seem to champion the underdog and the people with nothing who need our help, perhaps you'd like to explain your obvious adverse reaction to felons and lesser qualified people holding jobs in our military. And after that you can explain why we shouldn't extend your opinion into the private sector and fire everyone with a criminal record or low IQ. Rob, you've taken your argument full circle and now you're chomping on your tail.
