Has anybody noticed what a pack of cigarettes cost now a days
6.37 a pack last night at Wal-Mart. I remember my little league baseball coach would smoke 2 and a half packs a day. What does your avg. smoker smoke. At least a pack and a half. How in the HELL can you AFFORD to smoke. A Carton cost 58 bucks. I worked in a bar in 1994 and we sold packs for 2 dollars out of our machine. I couldn't believe the price. Why wife mentioned that my Gentleman Jack went up 13 bucks last trip she had to the liquor store too. WTF............

depends on your state, in NC they are much cheaper though dems are raising taxes on them and Alcohol again.
the Mafia comes down south to either steal or buy them then sell in high tax north because the Libs create a black market by overtaxing these things.
In Charlotte, not long after 9/11 a Hezzbollah Sleeper Cell was busted doing this .. Highly sophisticated ring was buying from JR's warehouse in Statesville(the max amount not reportable to feds, paying in Cash) and then running them up to their convince store buddies in Michigan to sell. Money was finding its way back to Hezzbollah in Lebonan. There was also a Vancouver connection in this but forget what they were doing, buying Arms I think.
an off duty agent witnessed them doing this and thought they were washing bills and were maybe Drug dealers. Only reason they got caught.

Thank the Dems for raising taxes on them every chance they get. The SCHIP bill that Obama just passed added $0.52 per pack. So much for not raising taxes on the lower and middle classes, huh?

they had an hour long show on this story few years ago on one of the cable channels, fox probably, but can't find it at moment. It was interesting.
bottom line, is you cant' tax so much or you still will create a black market demand. This is what will happen if they legalize pot, we will overtax and solve nothing in the process

I think that they are trying to tax them off of the market. Pretty soon it'll be essential to grow and process your own supply if you even want a cigarette.

...and when people stop smoking? You think they'll just take that loss of taxation? Hell no, they'll find it elsewhere.
Social engineering, IMO, is unconstitutional. ....and it's what those GDamn morons do every f'n day.

It still boggles my mind how people can afford to smoke. I just gave a 20 minute lecture to my sophmores. If you don't start by your 21. You won't start. That's a nice car payment a month. Plus you die earlier! Wow......................

Message received - El Stanley smokes fewer cigars.
Good thing that it is easier to drink cheaper liquor than it is to smoke cheaper cigars.
some idiot a few years back proposed to increase the Cigar Tax to some absurd level, which would have bankrupted all Cigar shops and created a pure black market like Pot.
apparently Obama is raising that tax with the SCHIP scam
Quote:Like thousands of others across South Florida, he now earns a living in the heart of America's cigar industry, where some experts estimate 75 percent of the nation's 272 million hand-rolled cigars originate every year.
Enjoy it while it lasts. Miami's cigar-makers are scrambling to survive past April 1, when President Obama's new State Children's Health Insurance Plan takes effect -- and brings with it a 900 percent tax increase on every single cigar made or imported to the States.
"I'm probably going to lose some of these guys," says Al Gutman, a former state senator who has run Cuban Crafters Cigars since leaving politics after pleading guilty to a felony Medicare fraud charge in 1999. "I don't know how many yet, and I hope it doesn't happen. But we're going to get hurt -- there's no question."
Obama's program will bring health insurance to thousands of poor kids, largely through an increased tax on cigarette packs. Cigar producers are quick to say they support the SCHIP program -- and even the increased cigarette taxes, which amount to double the current levy.
900% = 45 cents per cigar I beleive.
