War has been Illegal for 80 Years
technically speaking that is, which is a tremendous relief to its supporters and isolationist the world over.

Kellogg-Briand Pact, as they say "google it"...signed in August 1928, lead for by leading intellectual John Dewey. Went into effect in 1929

US Senate approved this treaty 85-1, along with the US the following countries signed the treaty which is technically still "Binding International Law", 8 of the original 11(if you count India for its British Influence) were English speaking countries.

along with the US, we have Australia, Belgium, Canada, Czechoslovakia, France, Germany, India, the Irish Free State, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Afghanistan, Albania, Bulgaria, China, Cuba, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Ethiopia, Finland, Guatemala, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Liberia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, Siam, Spain, Sweden, Argentina, and Turkey.

62 Nations in all signed on to this treaty....then of course reality of Human Nature soon followed and the delusion of "The End of History" was briefly gone yet again with cold reality.

Yeah, isolationism is what made me decide to leave the Libertarian party and become an independent. It doesn't fuckin' work. I'm ALL for pulling our troops out of Germany, Japan, Korea, etc., but I am NOT for saying, "F-It, not our problem."

I would argue that Kellogg-Briand was superceded and repealed by Article 51 of the UN Charter which gives States an inherent right of self-defense.

Its still technically on the books, but then International Law on these types of things tend to be vague b.s as it is, strong nations decide what they want.

either way, its a good history lesson. There have been moments in history, over and over, with times of what they thought was peace that many intellectuals called for "The End of History", i.e. no more war now, a new age. then something happens to snap out of that delusion, then after we win that battle it comes back to the same argument of "End of HIstory" all over again.

the latest time was the "peace dividend" and when Clinton cut the military in half. Francis Fujikama wrote about it then.

It's good to see you are never giving up your dream to be a comedian. Just a thought though, get a new writer.

RE: War has been Illegal for 80 Years
"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children--not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women--not merely peace in our time but peace for all time."
