UC freshman point guard Cashmere Wright out for the season
Another huge bump in the road back to respectability for the Bearcats.

CINCINNATI - For the second year in a row, the University of Cincinnati Bearcats will go the season minus one of its top players as highly-touted freshman point guard Cashmere Wright suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in practice. Wright will undergo surgery later this week to repair his ACL and will miss the season as he goes through rehabilitation over the next 6-8 months.
"We feel terrible for Cashmere as he was looking forward to the season as all young players do," said head coach Mick Cronin. "Obviously he was a big part of our plans this year so we are going to have to make some changes.
I want our fans to know that although we have had some setbacks, we are on the right track and our kids are working very hard. Our best days are ahead of us and we can't wait to get started this year."
Wright, a 6-0, 175-pound native of Savannah, Ga., was a highly-regarded high school prospect who was listed as one of the nation's Top 100 players by many of the national recruiting services and was listed as the No. 12 recruited point guard in 2007-08 by Rivals.com.

Not the headline I wanted to see logging in today. Hope he makes a full recovery. Was looking forward to what he and Vaughn could do in the backcourt, but looks like we'll only get to see one year of that now.

That kind of dampens the news of Riek apparently passing his SAT.

You might say the news about Riek softened this blow a bit...

UC's front court was pretty well loaded prior to Riek. It's been awhile since that was the case. I think UC will be ok, it's early and it gives them time to figure out the point guard rotation.

It's the curse of Bobby Huggins. Y'all never should have gotten rid of him.

Thanks, though. WVU, and all Mountaineers fans appreciate it... 05-stirthepot

Huggins was cursed by it as well... remember Kenyon Martin in 2000? UC should have won the national title that year.

I think Nick Aldridge is going to have a BIG year. He's going to be a surprise.

Perhaps an exorcism, or some other ceremony should be performed on campus to remove, or placate this vindictive spirit...

We have two national championships (tied with UofL's two) and six final fours (which is second most in BE to UofL's 8)....we've had the likes of Oscar Robertson, etc., I don't know how many all americans, and 40+ NCAA tourney wins.....with all this good mojo I can't understand how we have so much fricken bad luck...

Year Kenyon broke his leg we were heavily favored to win it all......that one is the WORST one of them all.....cruel it was.

Well, I remember when #1 ranked and undefeated WVU lost their center to a broken leg just in the last regular season game, and WVU made a quick exit in the NIT (when it was still the biggie).

Sh!t happens. You deal with it and move on...
