RE: Hawks.
The timing of this is curious, indeed. Four games into the season? After our first win? If Savard wasn't sufficient, why wasn't he sacked in the off-season? Bowman must be behind this. Quenville, though, is a first-tier head coach.

Is Tallon next? The salary-cap screwup has cost the Hawks the play of Lang, Niemi, Barker, and a few others.

I was at the game last night, and Khabibulin was tremendous. It seemed that Havlat's highlight-reel goal was the kick in the butt that the Hawks needed to get going.

I think the Bulin-Wall is going to be our best bet in goal this season.

Aside from that, I'm very suprised at the coaching change, but maybe behind closed doors this was a move that had to happen to get a winner on the ice.

Apparently it is leaking out now that this was the major sticking point between Savard and the Hawks. Savard likes the Bulin-Wall and the Hawks want Huet. Very unprofessional in my opinion to fire a coach over a difference in opinion when it comes to this. Savard should know better than anyone. Plus like you said Newguy I think Khabi gave them the better chance to win anyway, but we wont be seeing much of him now. Dumb move by a team that was going in the right direction.

That was my IMMEDIATE reaction to when I heard about the firing. Khabi has already played the same amount of games as Huet and it's obvious that Huet was Tallon's guy. That along with Tallon being on a short leash to win this year was why the move to fire Savard was made today IMO.

Yes and if this is indeed why Savard got fired that is downright apalling. Huet looks horrible.

2 steps forward and one step back. Wirtz is gone and this team still finds a way to screw up. Guess he just wasn't committed enough to the Indian!

Wolves don't have the talent but are a much better run organization.

Organ-I-zation fired Denny Savard today. The whacking of Dale Tallon won't be too far behind this move. Make no mistake John McDonough is 100% in control of things and has full blessing of Rocky and Peter Wirtz. Tallon didn't fire Savard. Rather he was only the message carrier.

Very tough to see Savvy fired. But honesty prevails me to say that Savvy wasn't too good of a teacher or a hockey coach. Truth is he was in way over his head for this job.

Just like when you were a Cubs fan and then mysteriously became a Cardinals fan this year when the Cardinals got off to an ok start. And you didn't mention the Rays once until this year. Yeah, surprising, I know.

Sure, if that helps.

If you make it that visible who you root for, you better back it up for when you switch teams.

4-game point streak...forward lines beginning to finally remain consistent and take shape....A head coach that knows what he is doing...life is good for hawks fans right now. If they keep playing the way they have the last 3, theyre gonna be top 5 in the west.

Uh No. McDonough could not even likely name everyone on the Blackhawks right now, he is not a hockey guy. When it comes to Blackhawks operations I can assure you McDonough is not calling the shots.

I half agree/half disagree with you here, MD. I believe that Brian Campbell would not be wearing the indianhead right now if it weren't for McDonough. You are right that he isnt exactly a hockey mastermind, nor does he make hockey decisions, but the bringing in of Campbell was also a marketing move. This organizational resurgence is multi-dimensional. A commitment to the fans, a commitment to tradition (mending bad relationships with hull, mikita, foley, etc), and a commitment to winning. Thats where Campbell, and I guess Huet come in. McDonough wanted to make damn sure that we as fans realize they are doing everything they can to win. And by making a player the highest paid in franchise history, he proved just that. Im not saying McD came into tallon's office and said "Ive been scouting Campbell. Go get him." But I can assure you he went into Tallon's office the night before free agency and said something along the lines of "Dont be cheap like the Blackhawks always have been."

As far as Savard goes, I agree with you that McD didnt have as much to do with it as some may think. Scotty Bowman is arguably the greatest hockey mind of all time. The guy knows good talent, on the ice, and obviously behind the bench. Considering he is probably the best hockey coach of all time, I am going to trust him when he says that a coach isn't the guy to take our team to the promised land. Bottom line is that if Savard wasn't a blackhawks legend, people would be happy as hell he got fired. I was awfully sad and felt bad for Denis on the day of the firing, but deep down I supported the move strongly. Quenneville is a PROVEN winner. The only year he didnt make the playoffs with the Blues, they recorded 95 points. The guy coaches teams to victory, bottom line. And forget that he hasnt won a cup. Neither have plenty of other guys. This team is no doubt playoff bound, and I am extremely excited.

Yeah I just thought it was insane that NIJ thought Mcdonough was involved in the firing of Coach Savard. That would be like Brooks Boyer (spelling?) being involved in a firing of Ozzie Guillen.

I can vouch for bucfan that he has been rooting for those teams since I met him, and that was 3 years ago.
