RE: Pittsburgh: best fans
I've always been amazed at how well Steelers fans support that team. When the Raiders came back to Oakland, I bought season tickets so that I'd have games to go to with my son (who was about 3 at the time). The Niners had a huge waiting list, and since we'd moved out here right after he was born, we didn't have any allegiance to any teams. I kept the tickets for ten years (the length of the original PSL), and I learned a few things:
Raiders games are NOT family entertainment, no matter where you sit in the stadium.
98% of Raiders fans are great, but that 2% make it untenable for the rest of them.
I saw virtually every team in the NFL come through Oakland in that decade, and Steelers fans were second to none in terms of supporting their team. Cowboys fans were close, but you could just tell that they had more of that same fringe element that the Raiders had.
Now, with that said, I have to also call out Tampa fans over the Rays. You can whine all you want about how the team and ownership used to suck, that the stadium's not conveniently located or anything else, but when your team is fighting for an improbable division crown and legitimately in the running to finish the season with the best record in baseball and (thanks to the All Star Game) a real chance at home field advantage through the World Series, it is inexcusable that you are only drawing 15,000 fans. I was embarrassed for the area when I saw that last night.
