Here was a pretty good trivia question I heard on the radio today...
When was the last AP preseason college football poll that didn't include Miami, Florida State, Notre Dame, Nebraska or Michigan?

FSU had to been ranked in 82 as proposed above me same with Nebreska. Um it would had to been in the 70's or earlier because the Florida schools really wasn't relavent till the 80's and was ranked ever since. I don't have a guess.

If you want to look it up, the answer's here:

http://www.appollarchive.com/

I'll leave it unanswered for those who might want to guess a little longer. Here's a few hints - Syracuse was in that preseason poll at #9, Notre Dame, Nebraska and Michigan all finished the season in the top 10. I'll give some more clues if nobody posts the answer by tomorrow morning.

Apparently nobody else wants to take a stab at it, so here are a couple more clues. I'll post the answer later today.

The US had been involved in a well publicized invasion that year

While Miami was nowhere to be found in the polls that season, a man who had a profound impact on their program was a player on the team that finished #2 in the AP poll.

As an aside, animus, you mentioned that the Florida schools really weren't relevant before the 1980's. However, Miami was ranked in 8 of the ten years in the 1950's and in nine more seasons prior to their MNC in 1983. Florida State reached #4 in 1979 and Fl*rida had produced not only a Heisman winning QB (Spurrier) but also the one time NCAA career passing leader (John Reaves). While none of this compares to what those three schools have done since 1983, I don't think this really qualifies as "irrelevant."

1964? I'm guessing Jimmy Johnson was on that Arkansas team.

And yes, I used the website to look it up.

Yep, that's correct. Pretty amazing that this is the first time in 44 years that none of those teams started the season ranked. One of the most beautiful things about college football is that it's an ever-evolving landscape...
