No decision on Mauk after all
The saga continues,

No decision on Mauk after all
Posted by BKoch at 8/26/2008 11:04 AM EDT on Cincinnati.com

The NCAA has not ruled on Ben Mauk’s request for a sixth year after all

In the latest twist in the Mauk saga, Kevin Murphy, the attorney for Mauk who confirmed Monday night that the NCAA ruled against Mauk said this morning that no decision has been reached.
“The call that was made to me last night was a mistake,” Murphy said today.
UC compliance director Maggie McKinley confirmed this morning that the NCAA has yet to reach a decision.

Asked how a mistake like that could have been made, Murphy said only, “right now we’re still in the midst of this, so I need to focus on what we’re doing.

“I’m just concentrating on being positive and I’m grateful that they’re looking at this thing and we still have an excellent opportunity to get a positive ruling from the staff.”

This is a waste of time, he just needs to go away. There are many players that were injured and lost time. He chose to transer, why should he get a sixth year when so many others did not?

Look, I don't think he deserves an extra year and I can't wait for this to be over, but you can't knock the kid for trying. If were to do nothing and just give up, he would always have to wonder what could have been.

Why do you bring up his transfer? That has absolutely nothing to do with this.

I'm not going to get into a debate on the transfer or any of the other stuff you guys have worried about. All I'm going to say is that the unGodly delay has to have an adverse effect on the team's chemistry.

We've got a starting QB... well maybe he's a backup... nope, he's the starter... maybe a backup... we'll get back to ya... 03-banghead

Screw that. Nobody can win consistently with all that going on around you.

That is why Mauk has not been given any practice time this summer. All of it has gone to the other guys, with Grutza being the expected starter.

That should lead to a couple other questions: If he were to receive year #6, how long would it take him to get into game shape and do you think it would adversely affect the team?

Really, is it worth it? I know that the coaching staff seems to have formally distanced themselves from this since they've had to work without him all summer and they've got games to play.

I have no idea how long it would take him to get into shape. I know that he knows the offense, so the only question is how long to get physically fit.

Even if Mauk is not ready to start for weeks it very well could be worthwhile. If Grutza was injured you have a guy coming off of the bench who fired 31 TDs last season. I am going to hold out on assigning blame because nobody here has seen any of the documentation or communications between Mauk (and originally UC) and the NCAA. But from what we have seen this week the NCAA sure does look stupid.

RE: No decision on Mauk after all
The real issue here is the ineptitude of the NCAA......they could have gotten together months ago, sat with Mauk and made a decision. This is just plain ridiculous and they should be highly embarrassed.

They are being exposed for the bloated, red tape, nazi organization that they are....shameful!
