The BEast is finally starting to get some respect
Did you see The BEast getting compared to the SEC on College Football Live today? It's nice to see one of these so-called expert finally agree with what I've been saying for the last couple years. Who, prior to WVU's win over Georgia in the 2005 Sugar Bowl, would have ever thought that?
This season is probably the deepest, as far as pure talent in The BEast. I'd say 4 teams have a chance to compete for The BEast crown, and if USF comes into Morgantown unbeaten, and the Mountaineers haven't embarrassed themselves prior to this game, I think both teams will get BCS bids.
I'm not sure UC will get a bid if they come up short to WVU in The BEast, and I'll think that's exactly what they'll do. The only other scenario in which The BEast might get 2 bids is if USF comes in with a loss to UC, who lost to WVU, and beats unbeaten WVU in Morgantown. In that situation, USF and WVU get BCS bids.
Unfortunately for the Bearcats, their national reputation, and the perception of the media, will prevent them from earning a BCS bid - unless by some miracle they go undefeated, which ain't going to happen.
Forget about Pitt. They've got Wannstedt. The 4th team is UConn, and that's where they'll finish... 4th.

I think Kansas and Missouri have shown that it's not good to just assume that a team can't go undefeated or get a BCS bid. At the beginning of the season Kansas had the same national rep as UC and got a BCS bid. If UC finishes the season 11-1 they can get an at-large BCS bid, especially if Cincinnati beats Oklahoma.

If UC beats Oklahoma, which is a definite possibility, they'll get some national love. But they've got a lot of ground to make up off the start, and if they lose a game, anti-BEast media bias will probably work against them. It may not, since they'll play WVU a month before the season ends. But that's a short time to make up the ground they'll lose in the polls if they lose a BEast game.

It's nice to see the Big East getting some well-deserved respect. Let's hope our teams can back it up on the field this year. Some big OOC games that will be huge tests.
WVU v. Auburn & Colorado
USF v. Kansas & NC State
UC v. Oklahoma
UL v. Kentucky
UCONN v. Virginia
Rutgers v. Fresno & North Carolina
Syracuse v. Penn State & Notre Dame
Pitt v. Iowa & Notre Dame
Plenty of opportunities for BE teams to shine. Let's continue the success of the last few seasons and have a stellar 2008 for the BEast!

RE: The BEast is finally starting to get some respect
As long as Oklahoma, Kansas, Auburn, and Colorado go down, I'm satisfied. That will put to rest any talk about the Big XII being compared to the SEC. If we win those games, the only conference they'll be able to compare to the SEC will be The BEast. And if Notre Dame goes down twice to The BEast, it'll be icing the cake...
I think we can win 'em all, except for the Syracuse-Penn State game. Syracuse has their work cut out for them. I'd love to see 'em win all their OOC games, but I doubt they'll be able to do the trick.
The rest of the games should be victories for The BEast...

I don't think USF was ranked preseason last year and they made it to #2 in the AP Poll?, somewhat fast. At least with the BCS system there are multiple polls and computer polls to take away from some of the idiot human voting that goes on.

USF may not have been preseason ranked last year, but they were just on the outside of both polls. Plus, there was more than enough preseason fodder on them (more than we have THIS year – coming off a ranked season) to propel them skyward with each win.

There’s some serious Wanny Koolaid being swigged. Did somebody spike it??
No offense to Pitt, but I foresee third or fourth place. They have to travel to both USF and UC. They’ll be improved, but the schedule just isn’t in their favor for them to contend.
Nevertheless, I’d love to see two BE teams make the party (preferably, mine one of them :towel: )

RE: The BEast is finally starting to get some respect
Another way to look at respect, or lack thereof: I think UConn and UC have led the league in “off-season no-respect gripes” and rightfully so IMO. I’m just thinking, if two teams like this really are regarded in the 5-7 range, the rest of the league must be real damn good.
I just can’t wait to get it going :towel:

Pitt facing WVU in Pittsburgh is dangerous as a home game for Pitt. Home field has historically had little to do with the outcome of the Backyard Brawl. The last time the home team won in the series was 2005.
