From their own words to the Tampa Tribune.

RE: How BE football coaches feel abouth 9th member
The 18 team concept sure solves most problems...really if there is ever a split, each side is gonna need to add a team anyway to get up to 9, so why not let the football school's pick their 9th team now, ditto the hoop school's and see how it works under one format. Yet, if they just want a band-aid things over, maybe the big east should just create a schedule agreement with the mwc...maybe a 4 year deal where each big east team plays a mwc team h/a twice...guess one mwc team wouldn't play

Krag’s answer is the most insightful of all. I mean, the board discussion here can’t even come to grips on who to add for #9.

UC/Kelley doesn't want a 9th member?

Maybe he thinks the extra OOC game will reap benefits somehow?

Props to the Tampa Tribune...seems like a lot of great coverage of the BE coming out of Tampa.

Considering we still have Miami-OH one-for-one, and OSU/VT are walking out on playing in Cincinnati, I’m also surprised (like Jackson) BK would say that. I do think from a “sharing the money” standpoint, eight teams is great, but it’s a scheduling nightmare.

Frankly I'm surprised they all didn't say yes.

We will have to ask Kelly why he said No...could be for many reasons. I think the best comment has been from Mike T we would add a ninth memebr when there is one that can help us. That pretty much says it all. Maybe we revisit it in 5 years if someone is then worth adding. Scheduling is a headache, but is it worth spliting l the money with someone who will only lower the stature od the quick rising conference?

See the thing is Mikey T always had the deer in the headlights aproach to expansion. Keep in mind that even if all the football coaches wanted a 9th team doesn't mean that the AD's and Presidents want the 9th team. I mean with all the talk from ECU and Memphis about joining the B.E. and the NY Times report about Army and Navy being scheduling partners and then the Big East office immediately shutting down all the expansion talk. I don't know maybe there is true talk behind the scenes. Maybe there is a true split talk its too hard to say at this point. I think the Memphis talk from their local Fox station was just talk. And I think NY Times was being the traditional NY Times and making stuff up.

So heres my spectulation. Remember this is something Animus is making up with no sources.

The Football teams will break away around the time the TV Contracts are set to be reknewed and only adds Memphis to make it a 9 team all sports conference, and with that deal the Lacross playing schools still play in the new Big East Lacross League as a partnership. The only way the Big East keeps intact is if the Football schools make more money in the Big East than in their own conference.

Only 1 NO speaks a lot more...(ok..add Krag).

3 yes's...Defer (means YES...but didn't want to get in trouble), Perhaps (same boat...didn't want to rock the conference boat but is in favor of 9th team), no opinion (same dilema...plus probably won't be around when 9th team/split happens),.

That says a lot more as more and more coaches PUBLICLY dmit that an 8 team football conf can't last.

Mike Thomas must have some deals he is working on regarding scheduling.
I am almost glad that VaTech rescheduled that game because UC is losing some stud Seniors this year. Hopefully VaTech doesn't try to cancel the return game period? We have 2 more games at OSU. No more OSU unless they play here in Cincy, airtight obligation. I would like to see a 9th team.

agree, but unless they are telling the presidents something different,
major changes seem years away, at best.

As a UofL fan I was disappointed the Koach doesn't want a playoff and isn't sure about a 9th member. I like being on the same page as the coach. This time... no so much! Maybe if he can win some games this season, I'll switch to his way of thinking.
YES to playoff, YES to 9th football member!

I don't necessarily think Koach K's "who?" is a negative. You don't know the context of how it was given. He could be a step ahead of the writer. Perhaps he has made it known in the past that he's for expansion and Koach was saying we're ready who is interested?

Leavitt: Strong, Strong, Strong, Strong, Don't Know, Perhaps.

I guess he used up his creativity bashing the old members of the conference?

I kid, USF fans. I kid.
