24K is better than their attendance average a few short years ago. Ain't life in a BCS conference, coupled with success, wonderful? 04-cheers

Nice! You guys have surpassed my most optimistic projections...I remember watching you guys play a game on TV a few years ago in front of about 7,000.

RE: USF at 24k in season tickets
USF has I believe 12000 tickets for students. Not sure yet how they will be assigned this year. Last year it was first come afew days before games but that has become out of control with the numbers. So they were talking about having students buy a ticket and rest in lottery.

That 7000 figure was in our worst year towards the end of the season we probably had 25k + sold for the game but people were dissapointed and not showing. Certaintly if we start losing we will not draw half of those 24k season holders to games. Is reality.

But thats why i keep saying winning is more important than who you play in building a fan base and increasing your numbers.

We could break last years attendance records even without WV,UL and UCF our thre biggest draws.

Yep, with the 24k season tix and 12K student tix and walkups it shouldn't be too difficult to avg 50K+ again this season. (hopefully more). I think the KU and Pitt games will be sellouts (65K), and then it will depend on how the season is going for the others.

Also, I thought the student tickets were 12,501. (The reason for the 1 extra ticket is to have the largest student ticket sales in the BE by one).

That's awesome for USF and the BE. Rise of the new FLA power. I hope you guys rise above FSU and Miami soon.

Those aren't "walk-up" tickets so they clearly don't count. 03-wink

This is great news for USF. Just shows you what a BCS tag can do for a school.

Exactly--several blow hard NYC based Cuse fans on my home board are silently eating crow

They thought USF and Cincy would be a drag on the conference back in 2004.

yeah it's not even worth revisiting, the fans on this site are great, some of the others, well... let's just say they have a little bit too high of an opinion about themselves.

I can understand how they feel. As a WVU fan I was not too thrilled about USF and Cincy. Not because they would not do good things, but because I wanted a different look for the Big East.

Truth be told, what USF did was amazing, but I would be willing to bet that schools like Houston, Fresno State, Central Florida and TCU could do the same with a BCS affiliation.

RE: USF at 24k in season tickets
At the time of the raid, I wasn't overly optomistic at first. But I was wrong in my expectations for the future of football conference affiliation for the Mountaineers. I didn't know what to expect when UofL, UC, and USF were invited into The BEast. I just took a wait and see how fast we die approach.

But then the strangest thing happened... (you know the rest of the story...)

I was excited about USF from day one. I thought they had great potential, but I had no idea their potential would be realized so quickly... The progress of USF's program really has been astonishing.

As for other schools being able to duplicate the feat of USF with a BCS tag, I disagree. It all depends on the particular school. Sure, the BCS tag is a huge help, but there are some BCS schools who have been BCS since Day 1 that USF has easily surprassed. Houston and TCU were already essentially in a BCS league (the SWC) before the term "BCS" was invented. Being in the BCS doesn't guarantee success, but it does offer a greater opportunity for success if a school takes advantage.
