He is also capable of 3-9, again. However, in all liklihood ND will go 7-5 or 8-4; people who are saying 9-3 or better, are really looking past a lot of this guy's coaching flaws, which can not be corrected by just having better athletes.

It's not that much of a stretch. He did go 9-3 and 10-3 his first two seasons at ND.

Football at ND is going to be more directly controlled by Father Jenkins and the Board of Trustees. He will be the point person and the negotiator at the table but the final decisions on football will be made by people above him.

The new AD will be more "hands on" the basketball and Olympic sports programs than the football program. He will have more authority in those areas.

Steve Orsini (from several sources close to him) thought he had the job and openly expressed interest in the job until the middle of last week when he was told that ND was going in another direction.

If you want some speculation, it appears that ND went with a lawyer (instead of a member of the club like White who viewed those across the table from his as "colleagues") who is used to tough negotiations and handling "big deals".

With the NBC contract extension already signed, the only "big deals" on the horizon that I can think of are the new BCS contract and ND's status/relationship with the bowls and the Big East.

Terry, that's the problem. It really isn't an AD job but more like what Vanderbuilt has now going on in their atlethic dept. That is why they think ND will not return because of that. Most points to that arroggances that the administations feels it need no help in running the football program. I say based on the last few years, these experts are right on the money.l Weiss hasnt made a differnce at all. Nd gets top recruits and 0-9 in bowls games says more than the administation thought on themselves. I say the administation is to blamed for this, but that just me. Solely based on the evidence preseented here.

First, TerryD, it isn't just the south. The northeast where several of the alumni live are saying things similar to the above.

Gdayre, I agree. And the word I am getting is that Orsini basically had to withdraw his name precisely because he was trying to negotiate it being a true AD job - not a lackey position. So naturally ND wasn't interested in him, since he didn't want to play their game and told them so.

And some Irish alum are worried that it isn't the President and the Board of Trustees that will truly be running the football program - it will be some of the more powerful alumni pulling the strings. Just as it was powerful monied alumni which got Monk, White, and Willingham out.

But academics is first and foremost at Notre Dame. 03-lmfao

I, for one, am glad Orsini didn't get the job. He might have been dangerous. This hire spells "lackey" all over it, and the present administration (and the alumni behind them pulling the strings) have already demonstrated to me that they have no true vision whatsoever. All of them are simply stuck in the past.

Sad for true Irish fans. Since at one time, Notre Dame was a leader and was visionary.

Cheers,
Neil

Weiss at ND is just like Wannstedt at Miami. Both guys inherited good players that had been tutored and seasoned by another coach. Both guys started out well, but then they hit the skids.

And even looking at things in the light most favorable to ND; they did finish the season on a two game winning streak, but the two wins were over Stanford and Duke. The wins were nice for that program, but neither win was very easy.

Thanks Omni, the word "lackey" was over and over. I heard the same thing about Orsini too and others. What you said is basicly the same thing they said. I didnt want to use the lackey because I didnt want to insutlt anyone. They was wondering who is calling the shots. They called them 'BIG TIME IDIOTS". They said that Weiss most success season has been with TY"s players. Most says Weis isnt worried about losing his job because of the booster. Like I said, ND is never ever mention here in this area unless it is the butt of a joke.
