Big Ten making serious $$$ of the BTN
No chance of this thing collapsing anytime soon.

The Big Ten, according to the NewsCorp SEC filing, will receive close to $2.8 billion over 25 years from NewsCorp.

I did not bother to read all of that info, but it truly makes me happy to see that the Big 10 network is very successful. The more successful that network is, the less likely they will need to go to 12 to get new markets, which means that the BE is just a tad bit more stable for now. Its not so necessary for the Big 10 to add another mouth to split their profits with if they are already very successful. I hope that that channel is even more succssfil un the future.

Any net profits on the channel are also split 51-49 in favor of the Big Ten.

The only portion of the filing that matters is Note 11 near the top.

So is that 2.8 billion gauranteed to the Big 10 ocer the 25 years? if so that equals about 112 million a year to the league. They are already getting over a hundred million a year from their main tv contract.

Yep, you read that right. Part of the idea behind the BTN was that the schools could no longer take gov't money to fund athletics. It would come from the network and other private funds.

Averages out to 112 million annually. That's 10,181,818.18 per member annually.

But over the next 25 years, what will the network TV package for the SEC amount to? 2.8 billion isn't outside the realm of reasonable possibility.

I think I could live on that.

With the markets the Big East is in, is there any reason why the Big East doesn't explore a Big East TV network given the $ the Big 10 is bringing in. Take advantage of being a 16 team conference, it shouldn't be that hard of a sell.

Not enough of a product when it comes to football. Maybe a single football game a week.

Basketball would be worthwhile, but ESPN Regional has done very well for the conference.

Agreed. The only reason the Big Ten considered a 12th team was to add a market to help the conference. Now, adding a 12th school would just cost them money since they don't need a market. And it allows them to continue to wait out Notre Dame. It also probably lessens the Big East's urgency to split since, really, the Big Ten was the only conference that was a threat to potentially raid the Big East. The ACC and SEC aren't going past 12. Still, we need a 9th football school.

Exactly. The only way the Big East would be able to get away with that is if they added a few more football schools and 4 or 5 Big East schools rose to Top 25 status and added more national exposure. Right now, our ESPN deal is MUCH better. That's our sports network right now.

And that's not even counting the money Big Ten schools will make off attendance, merchandising sales, tournament and bowl revenue, etc.
