Black Tuesday 1/22/08: Dow Selloff coming
At 630 Eastern time, Dow Futures were down more than 400 points.

I expect a massive selloff right off the bat-- something akin to right after 9/11.. with the "automatic" computer trading curbs kicking in by 9:35 this morning..

Down 500 pts.... we'll probably rally off 10% of total market value before securities rules shut down the market for the day.

All you f***ers with your economic head in the sand may wish to reconsider Ron Paul. He's the only guy addressing the problems out there fiscally.

RE: Black Tuesday 1/22/08: Dow Selloff coming
Like lambs to the slaughter. I don't understand this panic mindset of U.S. investors. Our markets are already WAY down from the last years record highs. The foreign markets just made the same correction in two days of trading. I've been buying up silver on the side for a few years; I only regret I haven't bought more. I knew the opportunity would come to cash in on market panic and its here.

Strange thing, the crude oil prices are in free fall (below $88/barrel after being over $100/barrel just a couple of weeks ago) and nothing has changed in the Middle East to warrant this, no crisis, no change by OPEC in production totals. In the U.S. nothing to really change demand, in fact the recent cold wave should be increasing demand.

For those that have stocks or mutual funds the last thing you want to do now is sell. Some of the stocks I own are at 5 year lows, but the dividend yields on most of these are 6% or greater. It's not a loss to you sell.

This might help slow the panic.

The off the bell drop has stabilized to around - 400 to 450.

However, as FBC poinsts out, its now flirting with "Bear Market" territory-- loss of 20% since its high..

Recessions are defined as two consective quarters of Negative GDP growth. That hasn't happened since the early 90's, just to put things in perspective. 3rd quarter had over 4% growth.

Jack Kemp was on TV last night and said the Fed needed to cut rates by 3/4 of a point atleast, looks like he knew what he was talking about.

wonder if ARM loans will be heavily regulated or outlawed going fwd, after the dust seddles on this stuff. thats the root of the problem, irresponsible people taking ARM loans not expecting or hoping not to come back to bite them down the road.

probably a great week to invest in the market.

The Fed cut appears to have averted the Market panic. Dow now down about 150, some financial service stocks actually in positive territory.

I'll be interested in seeing what the conventional loan percentages end up falling to... may be worthwhile for me to refinance as they could end up lower than percentage I bought my house at 2 and a half years ago (when they were pretty much bottomed out).

I'd say it's a good possibility.

The Fed owes a big debt of gratitude to Bank of America for bailing out Countrywide. You won't see anymore subprime mortgates from the now largest holder of mortgages in the country. BofA will set the market going forward.

Nice place to be. 04-cheers

Won't the market correct itself anyway? When I see the stock market falling, I'm thinking it's time to buy.

I moved all my money out of the market and into a stable growth fund about 3 months ago. I figure I'll give it a few more weeks and then move it back into the market.

Should make a nice profit.

I think everyone realizes there will be a recession in the near future. The only question is how long of one... a stimulus package can shorten the oncoming recession, hopefully to the point of making it 6 months or less.
