The outbound shipping lanes (the full tankers) are more to the south/east and a bit further away from Iranian waters than the inbound shipping lanes.
To hit an outbound tanker with a Russian wire-guided torpedo (given the "published" ranges) would take them out of Iranian waters..
For the Iranians the only thing worse than hitting a tanker is shooting at a tanker and missing.. because the gloves come off at that point....

unless Iran decides its time to act on their "Hidden Iman" ideas they claim to beleive in, then they may not care.
Tehran has been committing ACTS OF WAR against the US since 1979, whether the Embassy thing or Beirut or Khobar Towers to supplying and sending IED's and suicide bombers into Iraq to kill Americans. They are capable of anything.....
Them damn A-Rabs is gonna attack us again. It is all the A-Rabs fault that Iran happened back in '79. Yee haw. Lets go attack em! Good lord man. Grow up. Don't be such a chicken **** the boogey man isn't around every corner waiting to blow your ass up.
BTW Lord Stanley the one thing you should know is Mr.RebKev is never wrong. It is impossible to win against him because he makes **** up to try to prove you wrong even if you throw the facts right in front of his face.

You're about the last person to talk about facts, and you seem to be the last to acknowledge them when you're wrong.

RE: More fun in the Strait of Hormuz
What many of you are ignoring is that while we may certainly be more than able to detect, prevent and retaliate against any advance by the Iranians, or anyone else, is that they are constant irritants.
Let's be honest, we can't simply IGNORE them. We have to react to every provocation... at the very least, we have to monitor them. This is a HUGE waste of resources and a source of stress for our servicemen. Imagine if one of our warning shots had hit someone... Imagine if they had simply claimed that it had and shown the body of an 11 year old fisherman's son.
These are not people who have much of a history of following the rules of war. They have a myriad of military groups who all seem to have different agendas, and no central command. The PURPOSE of a uniform and a well defined military vehicle is so that the enemy knows who to shoot at to avoid civilian casualties. Does ANYTHING about those little boats "scream" military to you?? Imagine looking at them on a radar from a mile away.
They are trying to provoke a mistake, and they eventually will... and there will be people in this country pissed because we didn't blow them away a year ago, and others pissed because we didn't try and repel them with rubber bullets and water cannons... or just leave... VERY FEW would be happy, and NOBODY in the world would be blaming the dead instigators.
