The sick part about it, at least in Texas' case is not public dollars make up the $100,000,000. It is all private donations and internally generated dollars.

Equal playing field......NOT

It is hard to believe that they spend $1.2 million on women's ice hockey and it has TOTAL revenue of $1,642. The only revenue is concession sales. That is just plain stupid. They spend $1.2 million and lose $1.2 million on the sport. Unbelievable.

This is exactly why most non-BCS athletic programs are much more similar to 1AA programs than to major BCS schools.

UT gets(got?) a lot of money from the state for their sports programs. I remember reading many of the "lesser" Texass public colleges complaining beciuse of how much is given to UT an not nearly the same amount as the other schools. Now this was about the time they built their lockerrooms so it might have changed since then. Maybe our TCU friend can shed some light on this.

They are one of those schools that tries to out-do the others when it comes to facilities and donations. You know, the "everything is bigger in Texas" attitude. You have to have the best facilities. You have to raise the most money.

The Recreation and Physical Activity Center at Ohio State cost $150 million to build. The 600,000-square-foot facility features two new natatoriums, more than 25,000 square feet of fitness space, four gyms, squash and racquetball courts, a four-lane jogging/walking track, multipurpose rooms and much more.

The pool itself cost cost between $30 million and $50 million, depending on what you count as swimming related vs multi use.

$30 to $50 million! With a little more effort and some relaxing of rules, OSU could easily compete at the lower levels of profesional sports.

Oh I gotcha. Yeah UT is crazy like that. I actually thought about transferring there.. took a visit and all and was super impressed but in the end the overall size of the campus was a little too intimidating for me. Their freshman dorm has a movie theatre on the 1st floor 04-jawdrop

With the $'s they spend and generate the Big 10 is a pro sports league. OSU, MI and possibly some others spend more $ on sports than the entire MAC conference.
