They can have a winning season by playing 3/4 BE games per year.

Apparently they don't want to play Big East teams save for Rutgers or UConn occasionally, so it's a moot point.

Actually they like playing Rutgers we have pretty much a perpetual series with both Army and Navy as we're the two schools oldest rivals after each other. We didn't play alot however until the modern era. But I have no problem playing both each year just so long as we don't have a 1-AA and a Buffalo too. I'd much rather play the academies given the tradition, the eyeballs, and the history.

Why this new article? Are they waiting for the new bowl agreement?1-2 more games per year with the BE in exchange for a bowl deal should not be a problem.

Yes it will be a problem when partial members start taking bowls away from full-members. And it very well could happen this year with Notre Dame.

I agree there is a pretty good chance that a 7-5 Notre dame team steals one of the lower Bowls from a Big East team.
Now they might pass on going to Toronto or Birmingham, since the Irish would look at those matchups vs CUSA or MAC as below them, but you can bet theyll take an invite to the Meinike in a second and that Bowl would flip over having them there.

would an 'affiliation' with navy/army gain another bowl slot for the BE in the next round of talks? If so, it would be worth it. It would definately help keep what the BE currently has.

The Big East does not need anymore affiliations. The Notre Dame affiliation is already one more than it needs for its long-term survival prospects.

Navy would never have a winning record in C-USA and would rarely go bowling.
