I seriously wonder if a convicted felon would have an easier time getting elected than a homosexual or athiest.

geez, ive never understood why people care so much about what other people do in the privacy of their homes or who they worship. as long as they dont hurt you personally or break the law, let em go.

government should have 3 roles...

1)protect the citizenry and their property
2)build and maintain basic infrastructure
3)provide very, very limited regulation to business(example, make sure we all dont die from DDT poisioning)

never should it ever regulate my civil rights as an American...whether that should be worshiping Jesus, Allah, or nothing at all, shack up with the man or woman of my choice, or limit my capacity to pursue happiness(aka wealth) in ways that do not adversely affect our citizenry or their property.

funny thing....everyone of those stupid political test on the internet says I'm far left. I just think I'm a example of the New Conservative. Old style political terms no longer work for my generation. Unfortunately, the term conservative no longer applies to the left-right debate in anything but name only. Guiliani and Richardson are my kinds only hope in the next election. Neither fall into the new left-right paradigm. Although, both are testing my patience with their Iraq stance. Stop your party's line, and start thinking outside the 2 boxes they have created.

All I had to do is read the title to know he's an idiot. I don't care if they believe in God or not. The trial is whether or not they believe that other people have the right to believe.

This is a man I wouldn't vote for, on ANY given day.

No, it's prejudice. It's simply that they ARE an atheist. Same deal with homosexuals. Unless you think gay marriage bans passed in tons of states in the South because they were afraid the gays would outlaw straight sex....

I hope that's sarcasm. I've had enough of parents looking at everywhere but themselves when it comes to responsible raising of children. The internet is filling my child's head with porn! The TV is making him be violent! These video games are going to make him to shoot everybody at his school! A gay person as President will turn him gay! An athiest as President will turn him athiest!

Bah. Teach your kid the real facts of life, and be a responsible parent.

Aww I was hoping to see how a muslim would fare as well. He or she might give an atheist a chance. I wonder if one day religion could actually be left to the individual and not politicized. Doubtful though.

+1

I'm against any government stance on religion. Leave it to the people. I don't care what religion the candidate has as long as his political ideas mesh with mine.

Quote:1) aethiest
2) ragheads
3) Indian women
4) Christians
Who can tell me how many of the examples in Endzone's post are actually religions? guesses?

Meanwhile, fanatical is busy proselytizing about his "values", and how happy he is when his congregation "stands up for what they believe."

I believe that's called "bigotry" and "intolerance"...oh and in their case, "hypocrisy".

Somehow I knew my original post would somehow be turned into an atheism war on Christianity... I just wasn't sure who would spin it that way first.

While I'm sure there are some bigot atheists, in general calling an atheist a bigot, especially if you represent one of the organized religions who is trying to have evolution removed from schools etc, is an irony of epic proportions. Kind of like calling Rosa Parks a racist, to use a mildly stretched analogy.

lmfao You haven't visited DU, have you? Picture RobertN x 1000.

Yes, atheists, at least the ones "I've" interacted with, are nothing but hateful bigots.

I love this board. I've become a hateful bigot because I don't want religion politicized.

There are plenty of aetheist/agnostics in Washington elected, they just don't dare label themselves that. plenty of unitarian apostates also.

the first open Muslim was just elected though, and he swore his oath over a book that says it is ok to Lie and Deceive(the Koran)...Keith Ellison

Really? So when the ACLU goes on a tear to remove every last vestige of Christian symbol, thought, word or deed from the public, they aren't acting as bigots? What exactly would you call that? Are they just being responsible citizens?
