WASHINGTON -- Postal Service employee Carrie Witt, driving along Route 110 near the Pentagon Tuesday night, was among those who saw the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile pulled over by a Virginia state trooper about 8:30 p.m.

"The highway is restricted and has checkpoints set up and flashing lights and Humvees and spotlights, and no trucks are allowed," Witt told us Wednesday. "Everything slowed down to a stop and people were just gawking. The Wienermobile was on the side of the road and the trooper was talking to the driver."

Oscar Mayer spokeswoman Sarah Delea told us that "hot-doggers" (translation: Wienermobile drivers) Will Keller and Paula Pendleton had just arrived from Madison, Wis., in their 27-foot-long vehicle-one of seven currently on the road.

Sussing out the local geography for various planned charity and promotional appearances, they were unaware of the security restrictions on 110, which have been in force since November. A state police spokeswoman said Trooper Robert Stacy escorted the Wienermobile to the nearest exit without issuing a ticket.

"That," Stacy was quoted as saying, "was the biggest wiener I've ever seen."</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">
