.......cause I am PISSED! Donald Rumsfeld, who I admire....a little less now.........chose a retired General for Army Chief of Staff when Gen. Shinseki retires. This, for as long as I can remember, was ALWAYS held by an active duty general. What does that say? That we don't have competent generals in the active service????? I'm sorry, didn't we just make history with one of the fastest wars in history? That's TOTAL BS!

Franks is retiring and this guy is coming out of retirement. My dad works with a man who served with this guy and knows that he is a good choice as a leader.

Doesn't matter. He's out of the freaking game. Give someone ELSE the damn spotlight. We DO have competent leaders OTHER than Franks.

I just hope it isn't one of those ex-general "Military Analysts" that openly disagreed with plans, etc. on national t.v. across the country.
I served Army National Guard for 8 years, btw.

I VERYYYY seriously doubt that. He was once the commander of the Special Ops at Bragg.

I mean, if we are talking about generals, Lt. Gen Ackerman, retired as the IG and former Post commander of Ft. Gordon, I.e. Chief of the Signal Branch of the US Army, was the most decorated signal soldier in the Army....and I think in history. Airborne, Air Assault, Pathfinder, CIB (Used to be Infantry), etc., etc. Hell, his left chest said "To be Continued" where the awards and decorations were. I served with him and he was awesome. STILL, I don't see why an active Gen. should get passed over..... even for Ackerman. Ackerman was really a "Soldier's General" but his time passed.

Yeah, him as Army Chief of Staff.......we'll lose to the freaking Ivory Coast.....NO servicemember will follow him. He's already been the cause of the exodus from the military.
......and I know you're joking.

You're right, it doesn't matter, but it doesn't matter that he's coming out of retirement. The object here is to get the best man for the job. Its not about some damn spotlight. If the best man qualified for the job is a 65 year old major, then give him the job. This time its a retired general.

Let me get this straight.....we don't have competent people IN the military right now? Let me get this straight.......is THAT what you're saying?

What I'm saying is that the best man for the job is not currently in the military (until he gets inducted/inagurated/assigned). Sure we got competent people in the military right now, but they may not be the best person for the job. The object is to give the best person to fill the job, which in this case is a former officer.
