An Evil We Can’t Ignore
Human Trafficking
BreakPoint with Charles Colson
August 2, 2004
President Bush recently made a speech that didn’t receive much attention. It wasn’t about one of those issues dear to the media’s heart, like the war in Iraq, so it slipped under their radar. Only a handful of articles were written about the speech, and it received very little TV coverage. I think it deserves much more attention than that, because the subject of that speech is one of the biggest moral issues of our time.
Addressing the National Training Conference on Human Trafficking in Tampa, Florida, the president talked about steps he’s been taking to stop human trafficking. You may remember that President Bush unexpectedly addressed the United Nations on this subject last year, calling it “a form of slavery

Wonder why our president doesn't want to start working on human trafficking here in the United States first?
Like in Las Vegas and in all the houses of prostitution in Nevada?
Wouldn't that be a good place to start?
Seems like he would want to clean up his own backyard before he goes after someone else.
After all......."Every person who believes that life is a sacred gift from God needs to take a stand against the buying, selling, and exploiting of human beings. This violation of human life and dignity is an offense to God. It’s a blot on our civilization, and it’s an evil all of us must resist."
Doesn't this statement apply to the United States too?
Just wondering, can one of you guys who understands Dub explain this to me?

Sure, if there wasn't the pesky little fact that prostitution is LEGAL in Nevada.
I'm not defending prostitution mind you, merely stating a fact.
Second, we have laws against human traffiking and we prosecute it here. He wants other countries to follow suit.

Um, that's exactly what he was doing.

Yep, which is why we have laws against it.

Maybe I missed something, but here's what i think is the difference between trafficking and Vegas/Nevada:
What Dub believes should be criminalized is similar to slavery in this pre-1865. The people in Vegas are there because they made a choice to be.

You didn't miss anything.
You just have to remember Bush can do no right in the minds of people like Trooper.
Bush could dive in front of a moving car to save a 3 year old kid and people like Trooper would castigate him for not advocating tougher traffic laws, or prosecution for negligent parents, or tougher driving tests, or....

Did someone say that the prostitues in Cuba were selling themselves involuntarily?
Because prostitution is legal in Nevada (part of the U.S.) that makes it OK?
But it's not OK in Cuba (a foreign) country) where it's legal too?
The logic is amazing.
"Bush quoted Castro as saying that prostitutes in Havana were the cleanest and best educated in the world. He said that was evidence that Havana was encouraging sex tourism."
Because they are educated and clean?
Human trafficking is human trafficking, no matter what country it's in. I guess it's OK to cast a blind eye to it over here because it must be nastier in a communist country.
But then again we wouldn't want any of those old hookers ol' Dub partied with in Texas to get pissed off and resurface..........would we?
The hypocrisy is overwhelming at times.

Do you have any ounce of ability to actually deal with what people say as opposed to just running off at the mouth while adding nothing of value?
Read this and then look at your post and then tell me if you are on subject or not.
Quote:Generally speaking, trafficking in persons refers to actions, often including use of force, fraud, or coercion, to compel someone into a situation in which he or she will be exploited for sexual purposes, which could include prostitution or pornography, or for labor without compensation, which could include forced or bonded labor. The United States is committed to the eradication of human trafficking both domestically and abroad. It is a crime that is an affront to human dignity.
Simple grammar lesson here Trooper, the subject is trafficking, not prostitution. And they are not synonyms.
Now, based on this fact, try adding some value to the discussion that deals with the subject.
I swear it's pointless to try and discuss anything with you. I'm done trying.

here is what it boils down to:
President Bush is trying to stop this from going on in the US, but he's trying his best to also stop it from spreading around the world. What trooperdoesn't understand is, just because the president is trying to put an end to this in other countries, doesn't mean he's turning a blind eye to the human trafficking in the US.
