Ziggy Stardust Wrote:[quote="PirateTreasureNC"] Mr and Mrs Smith JMO

I thought it was good move...predictable yeah..but loved the way the hidden asassin stuff in the house/alternate jobs they had/ playful sexual & husband & wife type banter they had in it. Action scenes were pretty top notch. Pretty good rental.

It was a good flick, but if Brad and Angelina went down in a hail of bullets in the final shootout, I'd nominate best action sequence of the year. Very Shakespearean it would be.

Saw Cinderella Man. Was excellent. 'Twas some cheesy inspirational scenes, the acting was superb. Crowe was fantastic as was Paul Giamatti (Bart's boy). Didn't care much for Rene Zellwigger. Whoever played Max Baer was a bada$$. Great story, Ron Howard, you've done it again.

FTR I liked Narnia..hard for me to give a review when it biased over the memories I have of hte book being read to me in 4th grade.

High grade FX fantasy movie.

********************************************

King Kong 1933 Version:

I liked it! FX were pretty good considering when it got made. I really like the gung-ho at all costs motives of the movie guy. Fay Wraye (sp?) was a hottie, even in 1933.

The Island:

Its pretty good. Basically a sci-fi plot involving cloning rich people who can afford it be done to to basically farm replacement parts for that person when they get sick or injured. People at the clone colony get wise and break out. HTe found of hte colony hires a hit team to take the two escapees out before they meet up with their real life clones. Basically the first 30 minutes or so is slow and builds up to the breka out ..then the rest of the movie is a long chase scene w/ a few breaks to get in some dialougue.

Pretty good as an action flick but don't expect any high drama.

Rented American Psycho and An American Werewolf in London.

saw Aeon Flux

I didnt watch the cartoon. it was kinda confusing, dont know if seeing the the show would help any, but it was good. matrix-esque fight scenes. and Theron was freakin hot.

I would recommend it.

American Psycho:
Interesting serial killer movie. Basically, and as not to spoil it, it involves the slick 80's Wall Street types and their doings..... and killings. About as twisted as A Clockwork Orange IMO.

An American Werewolf in London:
Average werewolf flick but the wolves are a lot scarier. Pretty cool horror flick. Reccomend it if you haven't seen it.

Anyone seen

The Producers or King Kong?

King Kong

I liked it.. much better then the Twin Towers one.

kept to the old 30's Kong pretty good. added subplot of the girl liking someone on the boat. 3 hours, worth it IMO. liked that they had Kong playing with dead monster's jaw-like he did in the old one

Saw the Brother's Grimm on my flight from New Zealand. I enjoyed it, but didn't like how the story ended. Great acting though. It was really good, but the way director Terry Gilliam ended the film sort of leaves with wanted more, or something else. I don't remember many fairy tales, so a lot of the movie didn't make much sense to me.

Another film I saw, and I'm sure you're gonna laugh at me, was In Good Company. I liked it. It's about a dude (Dennis Quaid) who's job is given to a younger dude (Topher Grace) and Quaid ends up working for him. Then Topher falls for Dennis' daughter, the super attractive Scarlett Johanson. The movie ends well, not the way most people would want (i.e. happy ending, guy gets girl sort of thing).

Over the last two weeks I have partaken of hte following:

NEW MOVIES:
Wedding Crashers:
Pretty funny but not as funny as the hype machine said when it came out in the theaters. Basically the plot is a follows Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughns chachters crash weddings to hook up with chicks. On their bigges crash yet things go awry and they end up going these girls parents house where things are not what they seem. The guys actually fall for hte girls and have a change of heart...

Good comedy/reccomend

Hustle & Flow
Loved the soundtrack--finally checked out the movie. Pretty darn good representing of a musician stuggling to make a hit and get out of his old circumstances. Basic plot is Djay, the pimp, has a epiphany to change his ways casue pimping ain't getting him nowhere. He hooks up w/ an old school buddy and they start their muiscal aspiriations. His "big break" will be hooking up with Ludacris' charchter Skinny Black to hand off a demo tape he made. Skinny Black is a local rappper that made it big and is coming back to to town for his annual party he throws. THei meetings doesn't go as Djay would have liked--buth the end of the movie is poetic jsutice.

Reccomend..its akin to the vibe of 8mile but set in Memphis instead of Detroit.

Red Eye:
Thriller flick from Wes Craven. Basically there is a big political converntion coming to town and someone wants to kill the important people. The inting part about this is how assasins go about it. To avoid some spoilers all I will say in involves an airplane and a hotel desk woorker.

IF you are in the mood fro a good thriller check it out. I liked how they set up hte whole movie.

Transporter 2:
I did review this when in came out in theaters. So to keep it short.... has better action scenes than the forst one but hte first one had a stronger plot device.

If you liked first you will more than likely enjoy this one.

OLDER MOVIES:
Judgement Night

I lovd the soundtrack ever since it came out in 1993. I belive it is my most favorite soundtrack of all time ( Top Gun, Friday, and Hustle & Flow being other faves). However the movie is total garbage. Basically these thesy guys head off in a "rented" tour bus to go to a boxing match but when traffic backup makes them leave the expressway for short cut they go into the PJs adn get into all kinds of trouble w/ the local gang.

I'd pas on this one.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL VAMPIRE HUNTER D!! That said I enjoyed this one more. More up to dat visually nad a better plot IMO. Basically D is a vmapire hunter who is half human half vampire but doesnt thirst blood as of yet. He is trying to stop this other vampire that has kidnapped a girl that he wants to marry. Youy find out that he hasn't bitten her b/c he loves her and they are on a quest to live together.

Reccomend it & IMO its better than the original.

Saw a couple movies the other day. One was Serpico, a 1973 crime drama based on a true story. Al Pacino plays detective Frank Serpico. He tries to rid the NYPD of corruption. Everyone knows Seprico isn't on the take and makes his life a living hell. Great flick.

I also saw I heart Huckabees. I thought this movie was fantastic. Though I'm gonna have to watch it again to find out what the hell it's about. I'm pretty sure I got the gist of it. Probably would have helped if I saw the first 28 minutes.

Two movies I've seen recently:

Munich

Very good movie. It may be about twenty to thirty minutes too long. It is graphic and bloody at times, but it is still very good.

The Matador

I was kind of disappointed. It wasn't as funny as I thought it would be. I didn't think it had that much of a plot. It may actually have been too short.

Rented Flight Plan

GOOD THRILLER. W/o revealing to much lets say Jodie Fosters charchter has some family issues and her husband dies. They are transporting her hsuband back to teh US from Germany. She takes her daughter along with her(or does she?). Well her daughter goes missing and then it gets in to the meat of the matter. All i cna say is they play all of the angles pretty well.....and all points they lead too are belivable.

CHECK IT OUT.

Rented Saw II.

Its OK..i felt the first one was more original. As to not give any plot away as it would kill watching it lets jsut say instead of the normal 1-2 people locked away to solve their puzzle like the first one this time you have 8 people locked in a sealed house and htey have to find their connection to get out.... all the while poisonous gas is coming in to kill them w/in the time limit.

A couple of actors stood out to me... Lead Cop Chick lookes exactly like the red head hot chick from Starship Troopers, Lead Male Cop is Donnie Whalberg, black dude in house is the black guy from Showgirls the befreinded Elizabthe berkley charchter so to speak, and the light skinned muscle dude is the guy that was the mechanic on the suped up Minis from THe Italian Job.

Youd probabbly like it if you liked the original... if never seen the original... you might like it.

Rented Natural Born Killers

That movies is a psychadelic violence movie. Not to the level of A Clockwork Orange but close. Its defaintely one of Stone's more intersting movies.

Rented Lord Of War:
Pretty good. IT tells the tale of a lowly russian immigrant to the US who ends up becoming one of the world top arms dealers. His brother is his parnter...wise wife never the wiser...and she is actually his dream girl. Cagfe becomes good freinds with hte Presidint of Liberia. Basicallly this movie is a take on arms dealing and the "moral dilema" of doing such....and if you don't like it the G7 countries are the biggest arms dealers in the world. Solid rental.... I'd reccomend checking it out.

***************************************

My brother bought Avatar the Last Air Bender.

Its the tale of a "ninja" that rules the world. Basically there are four elemental ninjas air, water, earth, and fire and each has their own abilities. The Fire Ninjas get uppity and start killing of the others...they kill all but one Air Bender (--term for hte ninjas) and it just so happens the is the Avatar OR the one who has mastered all the styles. Well that kid hides from everyone till he gets un frozen and starts remebering who he is. The new leader of hte Fire clan is out to get him....it gets more detailed but hte dvd is only the first 4 epsiodes. Its starts slow but builds nicley.... very well drawn.

I will be getting Up the Academy this week

ITs an early 80's flick about problem Teens who get sent to a military camp by their parents and what trouble they get into. Has an early Ralph Machio in it. I belive it would have been pre Karate Kid. It is quite funny and some stand out charchters.

Can anyone comment on the following:

THe Constant Gardner
Doom
Into the Blue
Cinderella Man
Exorcism of Emily Rose

or any others they find new and interesting?

Cinderella Man was good. Saw it on my flight to NZ. It's got the typical Russell Crowe character, likealbe underdog. It's got the typical down and out, defeating the odds, boxing story. Some people have called it inspirational. I don't. I liked the flick, but this subject has been beat to death. Boxer overcomes all the odds to return to glory ala Rocky, Hurricane.....

Watched THe COnstant Gardner tonight.

Pretty good thriller...... Best description would be MI2 +The Firm. Or, in other words the plot of kimera in MI2 with the cloak and dagger of The Firm...politically spekaing.

Its is kind of slow moving...I would have enjoyed it more with more action/movement in the movie. I liked all the twists and how far up the conspiracy goes.

Good rental IMO.... buy ehhhh ....needs more action to be buyable.

Saw Annapolis.

Decent movie, BUT NOT AN ACCURATE REPRESENTATION OF THE ACADEMY. They actually did this movie without the blessing of the Navy and it shows. Almost like an opposite version of Million Dollar Baby. Instead of old guy teaching young girl, its young girls teaches young guy boxing. Plot has almost nothing to do with the Academy, and is practically just about boxing with some relationship stuff thrown in there.

Saw this documentary on the Sundance channel the other day called Dig! It was about these two totally sweet bands, the Dandy Warhols and the Brian Jonestown Massacre. Both bands used to be cool. The doc. is about the seperate paths the bands took and the aftermath. Brain Jonestown signed to the biggest indie label TVT, while the Warhols didn't land a major deal. Eventually the Warhols blew up in Europe, while Brian Jonestown succumb to the ills of stardom. Quite a provocative trip in the lives of two rock bands.
