I just wanted to get some clarification about the Asun's automatic tournament bid. There is some disagreement and a lot of concern among Buc fans regarding the Asun's automatic bid. Specifically, will the Asun retain its automatic bid despite the violation of NCAA rule that says 'x' number of teams has to be in the league 'x' number of years? I have heard this NCAA rule before but have forgetten the details. I have also heard that the Asun was in fact in violation of this code but that a waiver was granted. So, in effect, they still retain their automatic bid.

Can anyone confirm this or does anyone have any additional input or info.??

The ASUN's bid is safe. One reason that Florida Atlantic remained an extra year (I think the Owls are headed to the Sun Belt ??? ) is to give the newest members enough time to qualify the league.

Also there's a proposal to the NCAA administration to change the rules. The new numbers will be at least six common members for at least two years (down from five years). Part of the new rule is that the two years comes with a "no waivers allowed" clause.

Depending upon when that goes into effect, the only conference that looks shaky is the WAC for baseball, as 2006 will be the first year for the six current baseball teams.

Thanks for that info. Do you know the likelihood of that proposal becoming the policy?

I think it's very likely. I'm just not sure which year it would take effect.

Reducing the number of years to two means that the only conference in imminent danger might be the WAC. For everybody else it's pretty non-controversial.
