Now I'm wondering if this ends up on the national news - say like ESPN - Beyond the Lines (or whatever it is called). You just can't hope for this to go away soon enough - and for those involved to be punished.

Waiting for that press release from the University.

Hope it isn't, "we cannot comment based on ongoing investigation."

they already released it, wasn't much because they didn't know much yet. Sounded like they just found out about it today too.

I thought there was something that had happened a long time ago with UT basketball. this was right after the UT basketball heyday of the 40's:

Eli Klukofsky, alias Eli Kaye, was arrested on April 28 for bribing City College players in the 1949-50 season. Hogan arrested Klukofsky on July 20 for bribing Toledo University players Bill Waller, Carlo Muzi, Bob McDonald and Jack Freeman for games dumped two and three years before. Klukofsky had associations with mobdom and it was fortunate for some mobsters he died of a heart attack during the trials of the following year. Two days later, Jackie Goldsmith, a former LIU star, who had the best long range set shot in NY history (he could connect with two handers consistently from 45 feet) was arrested.

Wow, so sorry to hear this guys. I hope this doesn't impact your program too much and that it can get resolved quickly with the offenders taking the majority of the punishment.

IMO, Toledo Tom needs to run a bit of a tighter ship. Scooter should have been gone a long time ago.

Well, when I read the FBI agent's affidavit she says the conspiracy is believed to have begun in fall 2003, not their investigation began in 2003 as I was lead to believe by other reports.

I'm sick!

You are correct Tampa. This news has been coming for a while. The betting patterns got so out-of-whack and obvious that something was going on that alot of Vegas casinoes removed Toledo games from their boards.

This might explain all those dropped passes from last year too.

Well, reading the FBI Agent's document that RocketRobert posted doesn't make me feel any better.

It would indicate fairly widespread involvement. With football having 22 players on the field it is hard for me to believe that only one-two players could singlehandedly and consistently influence the outcome of a game (unless it involved very key players). I would think it would take a handful to do so.

This is so disgusting to even have to fathom.

Scooter McDougal is scum. Why he was allowed to continue in the program after the rumors we had heard (skipping class, drugs, etc.) is beyond me. Others are so much more deserving...

Good luck with this one. This is nothing to celebrate and it is nothing to point fingers over.

What really sucks is every player will be srutinized, every drop, fumble or missed tackle questioned and dissected.

You are right Ranger Rocket. I don't think the FBI would've been monitoring this situation so highly if they knew only one player, Scooter, was involved. It's likely quite a slew of players that were involved and possibly across sports as they mentioned for it to take a few years to be finally made public.

The key to whether any sanctions will be placed on the program(s) is whether any of the coaching staff even had the slightest of knowledge and as a result were negligent about it and brushed off any hints of point shaving. Good luck to you Rocket fans here from a concerned BG fan :( This would be black eye not only for the University, but for the Toledo community as a whole as well as I am a proud Toledoan too.

This is just surreal. Who would have been paid $10K to sit out of a game - football or basketball? It is just becoming torture to figure out who the other scumbags were that were involved. It was also a player that roped McDougle into this upon his arrival at UT.

I'm assuming "Gary" is going to have a huge price to pay as well. Hopefully that does happen.

I came across this same thread

What surprises me, in particular, is the NIU game that was played in the fog. The series of plays with NIU at the 2 yard line seems of great interest. If you read more, you can easily start thinking about more plays that seemed questionable.

This sucks so bad!

The interception against KU, if you are referring to Barry Church, to me wouldn't be considered. Unless you are referring to Summers' pass then maybe. Think back to the WMU game when Cochrane was picked off twice, one resulting in a touchdown.

I don't want to analyze every key play this past season and think that it was fixed. Can't bring myself to do it, but...
