If/when North Texas adds baseball, this will be a very very good baseball conference. 04-cheers

To tell you the truth I don't care which team we have, La. Tech or ULM. I think either team would be a good fit for the SunBelt. La. Tech has had a stronger football program, but I don't know if they'll drop down to the SBC.

I am so glad to see a more regional conference. No trips to Denver and NMSU definitely is a plus to all this. It is nice to also get a balanced 12 team conference instead of 11. I am beginning to feel good about the Sun Belt.

Your right Jeff, no matter which team (ULM or LaTech) ends up being the 12th member, all of us will be better off when this comes to pass. I really like the look of the travel partner situation.

No more trips to Denver! Yes! I think this SBC travel plans will definitely help our sports teams make easier trips and don't have to travel for a long distance to play some games.

Rumor is Denver will be finding a new home, more regionally. Nothing official though.

Western Kentucky WILL go 1-A. It's just a matter of when. It is not an easy process. Just look at the school in Florida that jumped too quickly. Every duck has to be in a row. Right now Kentucky is having budget problems, so now isn't the time. WKU had to give back almost 6 million dollars to the state that it had already budgeted and spent half of for this fiscal year. WKU will also have lots of resistance from university of louisville and university of kentucky.

WKU is getting ready to build a new parking structure next to the stadium. WKU is building a new training facility. The facility was going to be on the other sideline (we have a onesided stadium) but now they are moving it to another site, so that they will be open to build the other side. Yet another clue. It won't be in the next 2 years probably, I am thinking 5-6 years.. but that is just me.

awesome, you guys have been very strong in I-AA so a move I figured would be in the near future. Where would Denver be going? Big Sky maybe?? I know they have a no football so they could just about go to any mid-major conference.

The word I've heard is that they are looking at the Mid-Continent Conference as a new home.

The Mid-Con may be in place to pick up NDSU, SDSU, and N. Colorado also. These schools are in the process of forming a Div 1-AA football only conference that would include S. Utah, UC-Davis, Cal Poly, and, possibly, Sacramento State and would be managed by the Mid-Con offices. These schools will need a conference for their other sports and S. Utah is already in the Mid-Con. With Mid-Con members ORU in Tulsa and UMKC there is an entire west division for the conference if Denver and the others join.

BTW, I like what the SBC is doing with their realignment. More regional rivalries should make for a stronger conference and a lot more fun at the stadium/arena/etc. Congrats to your commissioner's office and ADs. They are avoiding the mess that C-USA is becoming.

Denver can't stay in this conference with no other teams in the West for them to play. Their travel expenses will be too great for them to continue to play in this conference.

All of this above assumes the WAC will pick up Idaho too.

JS, from everything I've read, Idaho has no choice but to leave the Sun Belt. I feel sorry for them. They were brought in with the hopes of a Sun Belt / WAC swap and it never happened. They are really screwed. If the WAC doesn't pick them up they will have to either go independent or drop to 1-AA. Their is no way they could afford to travel in the Sun Belt. Their closest game would be North Texas.

I couldn't see them surviving as an independent, they would have no choice but fall to 1-AA.

That would be great. If I remember right you guys already average more than FAU and FIU in attendence. A more regional conference with teams like Middle Tennessee and Arkansas State coming in to Bowling Green, alreadyan established rivalry with those hated Cajuns :D I think it would work and work well. But you are right, everything needs to be done at the right time.

There would be 2 conf. looking to pick Western up. I could bet you a hole in a donut that the MAC would put a bid in for WKU also. The HillToppers would prolly have to make a choice on which way they wanted to go.

Why would the MAC be interesting in picking them up?

Trust me I know how their Comish thinks, WKU has a National Championship under their belt, and if they can pick up another before they jump. He sees them as a power. Someone that may be able to run the MAC. Chryst would have an invite on their desk the day they turned I-A. I know how this guy thinks. Been in the MAC going on 8 yrs now and Ive watched him operate. He would want the Toppers before the Penguins of Youngstown. After Tressel left, YSU hasn't done crap.
