I saw this story on the MAC Board and it completly shocked me.

PLEASSANTVILLE, N.J.- A basketball coach who gave a 13 year old player a "Crybaby Award" will be banned from coaching, sent to sensitivity training, and ordered to make a public apology. Schools superintendent Edwin Coyle revealed the punishments yesturday. Whether the coach loses his job remains to be seen. James Guillen, 24, a third- year special education teacher at the Pleasantville Middle School, had a trophy made up showing an infant atop a pedestal, with a plaque bearing the inscription of player Terrance Philo Jr. and the words "Crybaby Award" Terrance was spelled "Terrance." After summoning the boy to attend the April 24 seasong ending banquet, Guillen gave him the trophy, humiliating him in front of 25 teamates and parents.

Im glad I'm not the kids parent, I dont think I coulda stopped myself from hurting that coach very, VERY badly.

Unfortunately for this kid, that apology isn't going to help him heal or change how everyone is going to label him at school. He'll prove how tough he actually is just by sticking things out there.

I'm all for teaching kids to prepare for reality but that simply isn't the way to do it. If I was that kids father that jack*** coach had better hope I never catch him off school grounds.

What I can't believe is that some people are actually arguing that this guy should keep his job. The school board supposedly wants to can him, but the superintendent of schools and some people in the community don't want to ax him. I don't feel sorry for the coach one bit....after all, it takes a lot of guts for an adult to pick on a 13 year old kid, right? The kid should get to do something totally embarrassing and completely humiliating to the coach in a public venue. Wonder if the "grown up" coach would hold up so well under that one?

I'm with you Tuffguy, I don't think that I would be able to restrain myself if I was the kid's parents. The coach would probably need a new set of teeth because I'd knock his current one's out.
