It was a nice crowd which was helped by 600 or so local high school band kids. All in all it was a good game.

THE POSITIVES: Good ground game, Cribbs ran all over the place, the punter is amazing. I know punters do not get enough love in the game of football, but this kid has some leg on him. Easily the best punter since Jim Less 03-wink

THE NEGATIVES: The defense needs to do a much better job tackling. They let the running back break some tackles; and there were times they had the QB wrapped up and he broke loose.

SOME OTHER STUFF: They sell beer on both sides of the stadium now; you don't have to be in the party tent. The team benches also switched sides of the field, with the away team in front of the home stands. I don't know why they did this.

Was a good crowd for Liberty............we should have great crowds for both Akron and the Herd!!

Their QB was recruited (I believe) by East Carolina where coach Martin coached QB's, so he was a good
QB and in the 2nd half showed some poise.

I thought we played the best D I have seen in years in the first half, as Liberty could not do anything. In the
2nd half the D looked like the old D; their offensive line made holes you could drive a car through and
their one good running back went wild.

Cribbs is the difference; without Cribbs this would have been a very different game. Cribbs just could turn it
up a notch when he had to.............and he did. On that last 80 yard drive he just took over the game.

Alston looked good at times but Martin did not use him that much as they rotated three backs all night.

Abram Elam is the real deal..........he made a big difference at safety and he is a monster back there...........
he stuck a Liberty tight end on a post pattern in stride after the guy made the catch and it just flat knocked
the guy silly.........and the ball silly......... I can't ever remember Kent ever having a defensive back this big, quick
and tough (no wonder he went to ND).

Overall a good tune-up for Cribbs to start up before a tough road game at Rutgers...........but I heard that
New Hampshire beat Rutgers today..........didn't we pound on New Hampshire a couple years ago?

Looks like everyone got through healthy so.... a win ........ nothing remarkable........ but a win.....
I'm glad we have Marshall here........they looked great against the Bucs..... but it still looks like their more
than capable of winning the Mac East.

Good win ........Plus the Zippys lost again......dosen't get any better than that on a Saturday evening!!!

The benches switched sides so that the students could sit in the new Gold Zone. Last year the MAC made a rule that students could not sit behind the visitors in response to the MUg/MUr game two years ago.

Coach Martin agreed to move the bench this year so that students could get more involved and sit where the Admin intended.

Thanks Coach M! It appears to have worked last night because the student section was full.

Overall, a nice game. Cribbs looked a little rusty at times by missing some open receivers, but since he missed so much practice and game time this is not a surprise. He will be back in normal shape soon.

The defense looked really good in the first half. I think that they may have started subbing in the second half and Liberty mounted a couple of good drives. Their running back #6 was pretty solid. Our defense is much more physical than I have seen before and they really laid some Liberty guys out. They also made a nice stand in the red zone in the 4th to keep the score at 10pts.

I agree on the punting! Wow, Brazen is a stud. In fact, if it weren't for that awful turf, he would have pinned Liberty inside the 10 on a couple of occasions, but the ball hit the turf an rocketed into the end zone. Surprisingly, Mayle missed a gimmee field goal. Very unusual...

The crowd was good. 17K surprise me a little bit. I thought that it was a bit high, but it filled in throughout the 1st Q. Kent fans do not show up early for sure...

Plus, the Zippies lost!

This just might because I teach H.S., but I liked it. The kids were into, they yelled, cheered, and overall made it seem like we had a lot of school spirit. Also, they were all local schools, of which most of them end up at KSU. I know it was band day. I say keep it up, let them start gettin into the games now, maybe when they get to KSU they will tell a friend or three.

Your right about the crowd showing up late. I got there around 6:15, there was maybe 38 people in the stands. Got me a little scared. I did like moving the team and the student section. Gave a better feel to the game. It looked crowed over there, and that is exactly what we needed.

FYI, they stop sellin beer tickets 5 minutes before half time. I was into the game so put off a tasty cold beer until halftime. Just to let you know, you shouldn't do that, cause you won't get that delicious beer and just have to watch EVERYONE around sip theirs up. Good note, frothy beer = 2 dollars. That's a great price to me.

Game time atmosphere still sucks. I went early to tailgate. That turned into me sitting in the car drinking, Cause that's what they told me to do. That was kind of sad. I felt like I was going to prom, pounding beers before the big event. But at least they let you drink.

Overall, I had fun at the game. You could tell Cribs was rusty, The D looked 10 times better and they put up a lot of TD's. Most people left in the 3rd quarter, but the game did get kind of out of hand, it started to get realllllllly slow, AND THERE WAS NO MORE BEER :crying: By far the best game I have ever been to at Dix Stadium. If they keep up winning, we should make the 15K no problem. Looking forward to Akron and Homecoming.

Anyone going to either of those two games?

I was so sorry to miss the game. Had to be in Kent for a different meeting, but missed the game due to another obligation. :crying:

The B.I.S. staff was in full swing Saturday:

1. MTV with a Rock the Vote Concert outside of Dix by the Field house from 12:00 until until 5:00 PM. Students drifted in and out, but many "come back for the game!" announcements.
2. Free pre game BBQ for students
3. Youth Football Night ( part of the community outreach). All youth football teams in Portage County got free tickets. Mom and Dad have to drive 'em. 04-bow
4. And, as noted, high school band night. Every majorette counted in attendance. 04-bow

Just a side note...when I walked around campus Saturday, I was pleasantly surprised with how much Kent State gear students were wearing. Maybe things are changing....

Still alot of effort to get about 17.5K. Hope the student and community catch on to this team.

I'll be back for Homecoming. We need a good crowd.

Invite HS bands every week. If it's a garunteed few hundred more butts in seats, then do it!!! Have them play before or after our band at halftime. The kids there did add lots of excitement. As a former band "nerd" myself, I hope some of them join the band at Kent if they come here. Our band is small and pathetic.

The no beer at tailgating thing is BS. I was at the Browns game today. There were thousands of people drinking before, during and after the game. I had no problems at all. I even left my grill out when I went into the stadium and it was still there when I came back.

If they go back to limiting drinking to one lot like they did last year, they need to move it to the home side of the field. Not enough people park near the fieldhouse to see the excitement. They need to make a small tailgating area in the lot ouside of the home stands. Check ID's, give out wristbands and let adults drink and enjoy themselves.

Happen to agree the "no drinking taligating" is B.S., radioboy. Unfortunetly, theKSU and Kent police partners don't agree with us.

I should have said this before...

There were a ton of students in attendance. Students, you were moved to the new stands on the East Side between the 20s and you FILLED IT along with the band! 04-rock

Kudos to our students for showing up and the Coaching staff for reaching out to them and accomodating them by moving the bench to allow them to have great seats! 04-bow

Hey guys, congrats on the win!! Haven't seen the stats yet, but I plan to take a look at them sometime today. Hope you didn't have any injuries or anything. I'm curious, what is the cost of a single game ticket for a KSU home game? I may be in the area sometime and would definately come check out a game if the price was right.

Aaaaahhhhhh.....That is so much better than the $44 per game I have to shell out in Iowa City. If business takes me in that direction over the next couple of months, I'll definately come out early and catch a game.
