Except on the scoreboard, Kent is leading Miami on first downs 18 to 15, net total offense 277 to 240, time of possession 21:25 to 19:35 late in the 3rd quarter. But Kent has 1 turnover to none for Miami.

Let's go Flashes!!!

Now it appears that even my gametracker stats have gone dead. First no audio now this. I don't think it is a good sign. Good luck Flashes

You are right Reno, I am about to pack it in and go see Friday Night Lights at the movies. Hope the Flashes can pull this one out. I will see the final score when I get back from watching the movie and eating dinner.

Go Kent!!!

A 20 point loss to Miami is disappointing but it is not nearly as disappointing if Kent was to lose its Div. I-A status or even worse if it made the decision to drop its football program. Yes, it hurts to lose but at least we have a team that plays in the best mid-major conference in the country and for that I am grateful. The diatribe promoting a boycott of the team is ludicrous. I will continue to support the Flashes and hope that the program will eventually become successful.

Go Flashes!!!

I keep asking this question , and I can not get an answer . What wrong with the other running backs ? DAVID ALSTON is not getting the job done. And a net of 58 yd. is not going to cut it. Try some other running backs.

I don't deny they should try the other backs, but the real problem is the offensive line. No matter who they have running it, they need holes to run through. What is more frustrating is the lack of any power running game, which Alston does not provide either.

At least we didn't have the agony of another close miss and all of the "what ifs."

Nothing left for me to say.

Report from the scene of the crime:

•Once the turnovers started, the team gave up. Actually, the wide extra point may have been the turning point, in retrospect. While we scored again in the first half, it had to plant the the "here we go again" thought in the players' minds.
•The defense looked deflated in the second half.
•Our offensive line is often just miserable, especially on run blocking. We mostly gained rushing yards on improvisation.
•No surprise: we got killed on special teams, again. Even if they weren't always big plays, we were outpreformed whether kicking or receiving kicks.
•Miami has better players. We are very thin in depth. I love their receivers.
•Cribbs, as always, was astonishing, and, as always, took a horrible beating because of our line play. In the open field, he knows how to avoid the big hit, but in the pocket he sometimes has nowhere to go.
•Alston has lost something. He looked neither quick (except on one run late) nor strong. Of course he had very few holes to find, too.
•It's sad that none of our offensive skill players can catch a punt. We have a DB catching punts. He's sure handed and strong, but he's not going to break away.
•In the first half, the offense looked very good--picked apart the very suspect Miami D.
•Red Steve and maulatt put on very good tailgates. 04-bow
•There is a great atmosphere at Yager and it was a perfect day for football.
•I had a great time, all in all, especially until the middle of the 3rd quarter.
•The better team won.
•We haven't made much progress this year, and our talent level is still below average with no signs it is getting better.
•Next week Cribbs had better know where Goddard is on every play or he won't survive the game. We have no one who can block him.

I agree with Nashville. The one thing we need to do now is preserve our 1A status which means people need to attend even if there is not much hope left for this season. I do not want to see my school have the distinction of being one of the first on probation for attendance. For those of you that don't remember the humiliation that went with having the nation's longest losing streak, it sucked. Every week it was mentioned on national TV. I want to avoid that kind of publicity at all costs. It's bad enough that we will be in the ESPN bottom 10 this week.

Not that I wish that attendance DQ fate on anyone, but for the record I am hoping it will San Jose State. From the discussion on the MAC board they appear to have a much stronger argument for testing the rule. Maybe with some luck they will prevail. Nevertheless, it is clear if we want to have any sort of future in the MAC we have to become competitive. We cannot continue to lurch from season to season just squeaking by with the new rules. We must establish a football tradition and that begins with winning games. Nothing else will do because we just don't have the kind of market that will support a team just because it is there.

As far as this team's talent level, I will wait for the end of the season to reserve my comments. One thing I am glad about is that Pee's is no longer here. Can you imagine what we would be saying right now. I don't believe that the record would have been any better with him at the helm. At least we are going to skip the fire the coach uncertainty and recruiting issues.

Two good things came from Saturday. The passing game for a half showed what it did last year with a number of receivers. Aside from a few frustrating drops early in the season, I think they can still hang their hats on the young receiving corps. The other good thing is that everyone had a hand in the loss. No more waiting for the shoe to drop because it did in the second half. I will just hold out hope that there is nowhere to go but up now. They may still have depth issues, but I don't buy the lack of talent argument. This still should be an over .500 team. I am relatively new to Kent State football compared to most but the talent I believe is a whole lot better than 2001. It's just in 2001, nobody knew how to defend Cribbs, one defensive player could control a game and the kicker was reliable.

The accusations about the team's lack of heart began during the Akron game, and I still don't agree with them. But that's a pointless argument because you can't quantify it.

I won't question the intangibles for the whole team. Who really knows?
I do agree with the idea, Parcells', I believe: "You are exactly as good as your record says you are."
We are 0-5 against a variety of good and very bad D1-A football teams.
All the hype and talk is meaningless about our "potential" and what we "should" be.
We are what we are and what we are is one of the worst football teams in D1-A. You can't really argue with that. Better teams win more games than none.
Doesn't change my fandom in any way. I'll be following the team forever. And I'll always be more interested in basketball because that's my interest. But this is a bad footbal team.
I don't have any answers--I don't really know if it's coaching, talent, bad food, or ill-fitting shoes. I do know another season is down the drain.
Unless we beat Marshall to start a 5 game winning streak.
