I've run my board for 20 years having it both out in the open and behind a pay wall over the course of those 20 years. Twitter has changed the recruiting content, and IMO along with it the perception of what insider information even really is. To be truthful, while I get a lot of true insider information I probably post about 5% or less of it because when you really get trusted with it they generally don't want you sharing it, and I am NOT referring to coaches ... I'm talking about administration and executive level information. I also live 2 hours away from Statesboro, and while I have a pretty good level of being tapped in I don't pretend I know what every recruit had for breakfast or their favorite role model.

I'm also 50 years old. I don't spend much time tracking down what 17 and 18 year olds are doing. Didn't do it much at 30 when I started the site, and I had even better information. I might follow a few on Twitter but I don't interact beyond maybe a retweet or a 'like'.

It's not money that has driven the recruiting discussion behind the pay wall, it is primarily due to folks who can't follow simple instructions on following our minimal guidelines. The arguing and negative public discourse that transpired in our public recruiting forums over star ratings and recruit viability relative to our scheme, is what drove it out of the public realm. Now that it is behind our subscriber wall, it is significantly more tame and my moderator team is a happier bunch.

Yes for some reason folks that think recruit rankings and team rankings are crap and if the coach likes a kid then that is all they need cant seem to keep themselves from posting in threads about that subject they think is meaningless, including mods. I hate the endless flexbone threads so I stay out of them, dont know why grown adults could not do the same concerning recruiting threads Not a problem at all on here or other sites, being 114th in the country is bad and so was last year. Some just want to stick their fingers in their ears and cant stand calling a spade a spade on this subject. Nobody talked about individual players in the last thread or any thread other than they committed or signed yet it got moved, if we were 88th in the country like GaSt is I have a feeling some mods would let it ride. Because we have some really dumb fans who can't resist hating on everything, and that kind of negativity is not welcome when discussing recruits (not the only thing, but this is one of the most sensitive). Like it or not the things publicly said by our fanbase can be used against us. Other coaches do use our online presence against us.

It's hard to separate speaking in general with recruiting, especially when a thread is started to discuss a specific recruit.

The more that type of discourse is protected from public view, the better. The people who are capable of good conversation/debate on most topics are donators to the site anyway. The recruiting discussion has been much improved since being put back behind the paywall.

LOL the people that pay are the ones capable of good conversation. Or is it you can control the message better when things are not sunshine and rainbows which was the problem....with some mods. Calling a class in the 100's plus unacceptable is not being negative it is the truth. I agree talking about a specific recruit and or player for that matter is bad business but calling a spade a spade is not. I am pretty sure talking in general terms about recruiting on message board has about 1/1000000th the effect on recruiting than the current coach..or the previous years results. I think it is laughable at best some kid is not going to sign with a team because some random person posted something on a message board...Plenty of negativity bashing of Fritz in 2015 yet we signed the best class in Sun Belt and GS history for the 2016 class IIRC. Had a long convo with Eagle22 about it he actually made some rationale points on the decision even though I did not agree but understand none of which is what you and others are asserting why it happened BTW. I paid before back in the day...with twitter and the 24/7 site no reason to anymore really for recruiting info or conversation that is for sure.
