The interior cities are a safe as American cities. The border towns are like the wild west.

I was in Laredo in the Spring of 2011 and 11 people were shot in broad daylight near downtown by Zeta Cartel.

Had a buddy that lived in El Paso and worked for a logistics company. He saw a couple of heads sitting on the side of the road on the way to work; I believe that was in 2010.

Another college friend of mine grew up in Del Rio. One of his childhood friends was abducted for ransom money. His parents later got a video of their son getting a drill bit put through his temple. That was in 2008.

These are just some examples that prove American Cities near the border are not safe either. Still very dangerous.

Its not as dangerous as 2011 for sure when it was just Beirut on steroids. But still dangerous enough that I would not go there at night. Also El Paso/Juarez was especially bad at that time. Lots of stories of bullets coming accross into the US side back then.
