Take this poll 2011 after a 11-2 football season or after a 25+ win basketball season along with a sweet 16 and there's no doubt the Ark numbers goes up. That's going to happen in most states. The question then becomes where do those fans come from, the fans that answered none of the above, the fans from the smaller schools, or will ASU take the biggest hit since they are the only other D1 school in the state. It will probably be across the board with each losing 1 to 2 % with ASU probably taking at least a 2% drop and maybe 2.5 because they have the second highest numbers and the only other FBS football school.

If this was a poll in KY did after the basketball season uk's numbers would be up...if it was last year UofL's numbers would increase....

we all have a large % of fans that wants to follow a winner

All true. Especially if you do nothing to capitalize.

The main gist of the thing is that you've got to identify these people and start making it easy for them to engage with your school.

In particular we need to get these people to publicly identify themselves with our schools. Even if only a bumper sticker on a few thousand additional cars.
Sadly, many of ours are easy to identify; they are disenchanted alumni. We are starting to turn the corner with theat group, though, and have made good inroads among high school students, particularly in the heavily Cajun/Creole areas in Louisiana [Acadiana, the River Parishes and New Orleans].

We have the same. Part of that was failure to engage them when they were students and failure to educate them on the school's history and why it is important to them to support the school...win or lose.
