This is not about Liberty. I understand that ship has sailed. I do love the realignment talk though. Just keep this in mind for all you JMU backers. JMU has about as much in common with the Sunbelt as Harvard does. They're an northern alumni school and I just can't see their administration lowering themselves to join the SB. Missouri State is a much better option in my opinion. They're going to have to get their attendance up for football. I think they only averaged around 8,000 last year.

About 70% of our alums are Virginians. Now, I fully understand that some of ya'll consider VA to be the North, but I'll fight you over it 05-nono 03-nutkick

75,000 alums live in the South (VA to FL and over to TX)...83,000 live south of the Mason Dixon line. That is out of a total of 110,000 alumni.

Virginia is Southern. Anyone who says otherwise has never been there. Most of the Civil War was fought on Virginia's soil. Only Yankee part of Virginia are the DC suburbs.

JMU is not Southern. Historically, Virginians see them selves as not Northerners and not Southerners, they are Virginians. They believe they are vastly superior to others, especially their barefoot, uneducated neighbors to the south.

JMU alumni want folks to believe their school is in the same academic league as W&M, URI, W&L, etc. They are still upset they couldn't get in UVA and believe in their hearts the UVA rejection letter was somebody's else's fault. They could have gone to VA Tech, a better academic and athletic university but they couldn't be seen associating with those red necks in the hills. In short, JMU Virginians suffer from conceit on the outside and inferiority on the inside.

Thus, their constant search for affiliations that confirm their imagined academic and social superiority.

Good luck JMU.

I think that, at least for the BOV at JMU, perfect has become the enemy of better.
