They didn't really lose to us in the bowl game... its that their players weren't trying.
Hey, I hadn't thought of that but, you're absolutely right. VT wouldn't have lost to Cincinnati if we didn't have players trying to throw the game.
That also explains why Cincy beat you in that 2012 neutral-site game in Landover. Of course, the Hokies who deliberately threw the game back then were just freshman, or maybe sophomores. Fast forward to 2018, and those very same guys (all married, with kids, and in grad school) really wanted to win for a change, but they were simply exhausted after having been on the team for six or seven years. Haven't you folks at VT ever heard about the NCAA's limits on eligibility? Are they still planning to suit-up for this year's games?
It's worse than that. As embryos they threw the 1995 game too. See really we should be undefeated against Cincy.
And in 1947, 1985 and 1986, when their fathers and older brothers were on VT's team and intentionally threw those games. It's in their DNA, I tell you.
I think by now that we can all agree that the Orange Bowl was a fluke. If memory serves, we scored a touchdown on our opening drive, after which my Bearcats decided to play with conspicuously less intensity so as not to hurt Beamer's feelings.
