Brendel and Berg in an excellent discussion.
Chad points to missed open shots vs. WSU (30% from 3 vs. a weak perimeter D), while Justin got into UC's poor KenPom in the half court offense.
I think Chad brought up a great point about UC's defense vs. WSU, and something I saw several times. You cannot play a switching D against a team with a dominant playmaker (Shamet) and a dominant big (Morris). Too many times I saw Shamet on Washington, Morris on Evans/Cumberland...
As far as Houston is concerned, my biggest gripe was UH's offensive rebounds. And, clutch FTs in both games were huge, IMO.
I know Brendel doesn't have a huge fan club on here, but a real good discussion.
Mick just doesn't make adjustments. It was obvious to anyone watching on TV that having a big on Shamet and a guard on Morris was not a winning strategy. It completely tilted the floor defensively and necessitated help on just about every possession. Not only that, but when a perimeter shot went up you had guys like Evans, Cumberland and Broome trying to box out Morris on and Kelly. I'm really hoping we don't see that defense next Sunday in Wichita...
It didn't help that Washington was on the bench for more than half of the game and that Nysier Brooks chose to disappear. Plus, Gary Clark had one of his worst games of the year. Add it up, and we got plunked on the inside. Good performances by Cumberland and Broome kept us in the game.
